EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT LOCUM OPPORTUNITIES
LAKE OF THE WOODS DISTRICT HOSPITAL - KENORA ONTARIO
We are seeking high-level physicians to work in our fast-paced Emergency Department for ongoing Locum Physician opportunities. The Emergency Department (ED) at Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH) is a full-scope environment requiring a Physician who is able to effectively navigate a variety of presenting pathologies. Recruiting more physicians for locums and full time roles to augment the hardworking team.
Our physicians work 8-10 hour shifts with the potential for 12-hour shifts arranged by special request. The ED utilizes a single-physician coverage model with24-hour On-Call ER backup physician. Several days of the week an NP also supports the department. The ED is fully supported by local specialists who including Radiology, Internist, Anesthetist, General Surgeons, Respiratory Therapy, Psychiatry, and Social Work, with a 24/7 staffed Lab and on-site CT scanner and MRI.
Locum assignments have the option to combine ER shifts and clinic work in Kenora or the surrounding communities. LWDH is only a 2.5 hr drive from Winnipeg, Manitoba and is a teaching hospital hosting medical and interprofessional students and residents both in our ED and throughout the hospital. Those wishing to work solely in the ED will be covered by through the NSLP for base travel and accommodation expenses.
Kenora, Ontario is uniquely situated in the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe people of Treaty #3 and is surrounded by 28 First Nations Communities all of which bring unique gifts, traditions, and teachings, along with diverse patient presentations. Kenora is the largest healthcare site in Northwestern Ontario with a service-area population of approximately 30,000. This population more than doubles in the summer months as seasonal residents and visitors come to enjoy all that the area has to offer.
For those who love the outdoors, Kenora showcases a variety of exceptional seasonal recreational activities including sailing, the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club, hiking trails, downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as the Kenora Nordic and Biathlon Club. LAKE OF THE WOODS DISTRICT HOSPITAL
The Emergency Department is equipped with:
- An 11-bed department with standard equipment including
- slit lamp and casting room
- two fully equipped resuscitation rooms
- ED ultrasound and difficult airway equipment;
- Regional Critical Care Response (RCCR) with direct connect to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center
- with an average of 30,000+ annual visits,
- On-site helipad for 24/7 patient transfer to tertiary facilities via ORNGE (local Kenora base)
- Access to referral and support from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center, Winnipeg Health Sciences Center and St. Boniface General Hospital
- Fully computerized EMR (Meditech)
Our full-service accredited community teaching hospital is equipped with:
- 14-bed Schedule 1 facility with on-site Psychiatrist
- newly renovated 3-bay OR suite with 3 General Surgeons and 3 FPAs on staff
- on-site dialysis & chemotherapy
- 4-bed Level 2 ICU with on-site General Internal Medicine Specialists, rapid assessment clinic & outpatient IM clinic in the hospital
- Respiratory therapy and diagnostic imaging – including ultrasound & CT scanner
- Rehabilitation department (Physiotherapy, OT, SLP)
- Tele-medicine and visiting specialist outpatient clinics (Opthalmology, Neurology, Gynecology, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Nephrology, Orthopedics)
- After hours/on-call: ER Backup physician, Hospitalist, Psychiatrist, Internist, Surgeon, Anesthetist, Obstetrics, DI/Radiology, Respiratory Therapist
- On-site specialty consults: General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, GP Anesthesia
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Previous ED experience and current ATLS, ACLS, PALS training required or CCFP or CCFP (EM) or FRCP (EM)
Current valid Independent license with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
Valid CMPA coverage for Ontario
REMUNERATION
Average hourly rate is $300 (dependent on date and time) plus a percentage of OHIP billings.
