Alberta Health Services (AHS) is inviting applications from family physicians with a background in urgent or emergency care and outpatient work to join the Department of Family Medicine in Calgary.
There will be locum positions positions (FTE 0.1-1.0) available (including days, evenings, nights, and weekends) at the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre (SMCHC) Urgent Care Centre (UCC), a health facility supporting a vulnerable, culturally diverse, complex population in downtown Calgary. The UCC operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and features on-site lab and DI services while using electronic medical records.
The successful physicians must be able to fill the part-time scheduling requirements of a minimum of 8 48hrs) shifts per month and will integrate seamlessly into a multidisciplinary team environment including licensed practical nurses (LPNs), orthopedic technicians (OTs), and registered nurses (RNs). There will be varying number of shifts available during this time period depending on availability of staff physicians.
The successful applicants MUST complete training for Connect Care (ASAP track) in order to work. This involves both online and in-person training (no remuneration for training time).
SMCHC UCC physicians hold Medical Staff Appointments with the Department of Family Medicine. As an important training facility for residents and students, clinical teaching is a requirement of this position, and the successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Appointment in the Department of Family Medicine, University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant will:
- be certified in Family Medicine with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or certified in Emergency Medicine with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
- hold active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
- have current medical liability insurance coverage
- demonstrate strong, clear communication skills including written, auditory, and verbal
- have greater than one year of experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting
- be certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with information technology systems, such as Netcare, PACS
- Previous experience providing urgent or emergency care to pediatric patients
- CCFP (EM) or FRCPC (EM) designation
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write, and speak English.
