Job Description

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Movement Disorders Neurologist.  Based between the Kaye Edmonton Clinic, University of Alberta Hospital and Royal Alexandra Hospital, located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

Key accountabilities of the FFS Neurologist will include but will not be limited to call and ward duties at Royal Alexandra Hospital or University of Alberta Hospital, teaching of medical students, postgraduate medical education and fellows in Neurology as appropriate.  The Division of Neurology works in teams and therefore ability to function in multi and interdisciplinary teams is essential.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent.  He or she will be eligible to be certification in Neurology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada.  As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

The successful candidate MUST have a movement disorders fellowship completed at a Canadian university.  Ability to perform injections for dystonia, tremor and parkinsonian disorders is required.  Neurophysiology skills in diagnosis of movement disorders are preferred.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta has recently announced that physicians from limited approved jurisdictions may be eligible for immediate licensure in Alberta on the General Registry. If eligible, you could be able to start practice without an examination or assessment. Contact us to learn more or go to Registration - College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta | CPSA

Interested candidates are asked to submit online a letter of intent and curriculum vitae outlining their educational background, employment history, publication record and education evaluations where possible, to:

Dr. Penny Smyth

Divisional Director, Neurology

E-mail: ***@ualberta.ca (🔒 Premium)

Applications will begin being reviewed two weeks after ad posted, however, the competition will remain open until the position is filled. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.
