Job Description

Join a collaborative, skilled, and welcoming medical team in the oceanside community of Kitimat, BC. Our clinicians are committed to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care across the region. If you are passionate about rural medicine and excited to experience life in the Pacific Northwest, this opportunity may be an excellent fit.

This position offers a blend of Anesthesia services with family practice or emergency medicine, supporting a small but vital rural hospital. Kitimat General Hospital & Health Centre is a community facility operated by Northern Health, providing 24‑hour emergency care, acute services, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, and specialty outpatient clinics.

As an FP‑Anesthetist, you will provide anesthesia coverage for scheduled surgical cases and participate in the call rota. The role is well‑supported by local physicians and regional specialists, and also offers optional work in primary care or the emergency department. The hospital serves Kitimat and surrounding communities, including Haisla and Hartley Bay, giving physicians exposure to a broad clinical mix and meaningful rural practice.

The District of Kitimat has launched an initiative to support new healthcare workers relocating to Kitimat. Learn more about the incentives here: https://www.kitimat.ca/en/business-and-development/resources/Documents/2025-11-12-Healthcare-Recruitment-and-Retention-Incentive-Package.pdf

Set within some of the most spectacular and remote scenery in the world, Kitimat truly is a "Marvel of Industry and Nature". A deep sea port town, situated on both the sheltered inland coast at the head of the Douglas Channel and on the only other flat bottomed valley on the Canadian west coast, outside Vancouver, with easy rail, road and air access - it has an enviably bright future. Purposely built by Alcan in the 1950's, the friendly multicultural town boasts perhaps the best facilities for a community of its size with two ice arenas, a brand new pool, sports fields, a theatre, a modern library, recreation centre, a shopping mall, marinas, homes for the elderly, several schools, inexpensive housing and countless opportunities to take advantage of the spectacular wilderness just outside the Douglas Channel. The many pristine salmon bearing rivers, along with mountain hiking trails and local ski hills offer a lifetime of experiences for the outdoor enthusiast and young family.
