Opportunity Mental Health Program – Eating Disorders Program seeking a General Adult Psychiatrist with interest in Eating Disorders Full-time or Part-Time
The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) Mental Health program is a Schedule 1 Facility under the Mental Health Act, which operates the following general psychiatry acute care programs and services at two campuses (Civic and General):
- Psychiatric Emergency Services
- Inpatient Service
- Outpatient Clinics
- Acute Partial Hospitalization
- Consultation Programs & Medical/Surgical Consultation Liaison Service
The Ottawa Hospital also provides specialized programs and/or services:
- Mobile Crisis Team & Community Crisis Stabilization Beds
- Champlain District First Episode Psychosis Program (regional program)
- Perinatal Mental Health Services
- Regional Program for the Treatment of Eating Disorder
- Community Treatment Order Coordinator
The Regional Program for the Treatment of Eating Disorders (EDP) at the Ottawa Hospital has an opening for a staff psychiatrist already interested in eating disorders or willing to develop expertise in eating disorders. The program is a collaborative care model with psychiatrists working as part of a multidisciplinary team serving 6 inpatient beds in the Symptom Interruption Program (SIP), 8 patients in the intensive Day Hospital Program (DHP), outpatient Transitional Care Program, outpatient Relapse Prevention Program, outpatient CBT-based group therapy, consults from hospitals and a variety of community settings including consulting services to community partners such as Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). SIP beds are primarily managed by hospitalists as most responsible physician with psychiatric care provided by a psychiatrist as consultant. The position comes with opportunities for those interested to be involved in the training of hospital staff, learners (medical students, psychiatry residents, bariatric medicine fellows, psychology residents and dietetics students) and community partners. The Ottawa Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario are jointly offering an Eating Disorder Fellowship program as well.
- Jobduties:
- Provide care to patients with eating disorders in some combination of inpatient (priority area), outpatient (priority area), and day hospital settings.
- Consult with other health care providers to devise a plan to manage other health issues or medications that may be impacting the patient’s mental
- Develop and implement treatment plans,including prescription of
- Monitor and evaluate treatment results.
- Evaluate patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons; observing behaviors; reviewingmedical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; and ordering laboratory tests and evaluating
- Maintain historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing
- Update job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading professional publications,maintaining personal networks, participating in professional organizations, and be actively involved in education quality improvement
- Leadership opportunities available for those with relevant experience and interest
Terms of Employment:
- Wage range: estimated at $250,000 – $400,000, dependent on desired clinical setting distribution and load as well as academic productivity;
- Permanent, Full-Time; On-call, Evening and Weekend coverage of approximately twice per month,Emergency services can prolong scheduled shifts
- Start date: Immediately
- Benefits: Successful applicants will work in a hospital privileges Remuneration is fee for service with alternate funding plan for academic work.
Skills Requirements:
- Language: English
· Education:
- Graduation from an approved medical school and specific specialty training in Psychiatry
- Completion of the certifying examinations of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (“CPSO”) and licensing by the provincial or territorial licensing authority are required
- Eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Four to five years of psychiatry residency training
- Specialized training in eating disorders not required. We can help you develop expertise in eating disorders in this role.
- Holds or eligible for FRCPC designation in psychiatry or equivilant
· Experience:
- Expertise in and commitment to treatment o fpatients in an acute general psychiatry academic Setting
- Demonstrated experience in assessing the patient's needs
- Demonstrated experience in participating as an active member of the health care team
- Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health Discipline
- Meet criteria to apply for and receive appropriate medica lstaff privileges at The Ottawa Hospital
- Meet criteria and receive an academic appointment at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine
- Ability to communicate in a bilingual environment (French& English) is preferred/an asset but not a condition of employment.
