Job Description

Position Description:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM), is seeking two or more Pediatricians to join our Section of clinical and academic colleagues. This position will support clinical service gaps primarily related to admitting and caring for medically complex patients on the PHM service. The work model is to intermittently provide 3-7 days of inpatient and outpatient clinical service, and do intermittent admitting, evening and night shifts. As we are also affiliated with the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary there will be an expectation to precept medical students, residents or fellows while they are working on our teams.  

The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine provides comprehensive, tertiary inpatient acute and complex care to children in Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia and SW Saskatchewan; a catchment area of approximately 3 million people. We provide 24/7 inpatient coverage for approximately 80% of hospitalized medical patients, excluding the PICU, NICU, Psychiatry and Oncology units. The successful applicant will hold a clinical appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, with Alberta Health Services as well as a faculty appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine.  

The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine holds the aspirational vision of championing exceptional care. We have academic members with expertise in Research, Quality Improvement and Medical Education and we launched an academic Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship in July 2018. Our clinical members have diverse interests and support the academic mission of the Section. We are a very cohesive and collaborative group, while also celebrating diversity amongst us, which is viewed as a strength. 

The Department of Pediatrics has over 500 clinical and academic faculty members who are part of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Qualifications:

The candidate must be eligible for an independent practice permit with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.   

Candidates must have an established commitment to excellence in clinical care. Pediatricians with a Pediatric Hospital Medicine or Complex Care Fellowship or other pediatric subspeciality fellowship or relevant work experience, that would best meet the needs of families and patients with medical complexity are preferred candidates. Additional expertise in medical education, quality improvement or clinical research would be a definite asset.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write, and speak English.
