Job Description

The Division of Pediatric and Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, and Edmonton Zone, Alberta Health Services, are accepting applications for a Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon.

The successful applicant will join five pediatric orthopedic surgeons, one spine surgeon, and three nurse practitioners who provide a full range of elective orthopaedic and trauma services to children up to the age of 17 years.  The successful applicant is expected to have superior technical surgical skills, clinical judgement, and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team.  Further subspecialty training within pediatric orthopaedics (neuromuscular, spine, upper extremity, complex hip, or sports training) will be taken into consideration but is not a requirement.

Pediatric Surgery is an integral part of the Department of Surgery and provides secondary and tertiary care services for the city of Edmonton, northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon Territories, and Nunavut. The primary site of practice will be the Stollery Children's Hospital, a western Canadian referral centre for specialized pediatric services located within the University of Alberta Hospital, and at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital.

It is expected that the successful candidate will apply for a clinical faculty appointment within the Department of Surgery and participate in all aspects of the academic and clinical mission of the Divisions of Pediatric Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, participation in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, and contribute to basic and/or clinical research, and participate in administrative activities.

The successful candidate must be a surgeon having fulfilled the fellowship qualifications of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Orthopaedic Surgery with subspecialty fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, and be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta.

Remuneration will be on a fee-for-services basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health.

Consideration of applications will continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants should forward their curriculum vitae and a letter of application to:

Dr. Roxanne Chow

Site Lead, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery

Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta are committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workforce. We welcome applications from all qualified persons. We encourage women; First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons; members of visible minority groups; persons with disabilities; persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and expression; and all those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas to apply.

We thank all applicants for their interest; only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
