ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone invites applications for a permanent full-time Pediatric Surgeon at the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre in St. John's, NL.

The successful candidate will join an established and collaborative Pediatric Surgery team, providing comprehensive surgical care to children and adolescents across Newfoundland and Labrador. The position includes both inpatient and outpatient pediatric surgical services, with on-call coverage shared equitably among the physician group.

The Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre is a 71-bed tertiary care referral hospital for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate will have opportunities for teaching, research, and scholarly activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Pediatric Surgery (or equivalent)
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Must satisfy credentialing and privilege requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
  • Subspecialty training or interest considered an asset
  • Eligibility for academic appointment with the Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador considered an asset

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive pediatric surgical care including inpatient and outpatient services
  • Perform elective and emergency pediatric surgical procedures
  • Deliver consultations to referring physicians and interdisciplinary teams
  • Participate in on-call coverage shared equitably among the Pediatric Surgery team
  • Contribute to teaching and scholarly activities through the Memorial University affiliation
  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary pediatric surgical and clinical team
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
