Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Wellness and Well-being, the Physician Team Lead is accountable for providing comprehensive medical care and health education to students, staff and faculty.

The incumbent will work with the Director, Wellness & Well-being to develop, maintain and manage comprehensive health care services at the University for students, staff and faculty,

and in the case of staff/faculty their immediate family members.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Deliver care at all times in accordance with the principles of practice and duties, as outlined by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Develop and demonstrate excellent doctor/patient therapeutic relationships
  • Provide continuing medical care, including complete follow-up and referrals as indicated
  • Participate in preventative and health education activities and programs for the student community, staff, faculty and colleagues
  • Provide appropriate medical leadership and direction for students, staff, faculty and colleagues in the areas of primary care, disease prevention and continuing education
  • Advise and collaborate with the Director and leadership colleagues in health services in areas of staff education, pharmaceuticals, program development and implementation of long-range policies
  • Assist the Director, as required, in screening applicants to fill clinical staff vacancies
  • Oversees the Student Emergency Response Team (50 highly trained student volunteers that provide advanced emergency first aid on campus)
  • Providing clinical/medical leadership for physicians working within the portfolio
  • Contribute to the effective financial management of the clinics
  • Participate in clinic-based research projects
  • Take an active role in team building with all staff members within the clinic
  • Make positive contributions to support and maintain staff morale within the clinic
  • Observe all Clinic policies and procedures with respect to problem resolution
  • Augment and maintain professional skills through ongoing Professional Development and Continuing Medication Education programs
  • Keep all patient information and records confidential per the clinic Privacy Policy and the Personal Health Information Privacy Act
  • Be flexible, accommodating and understanding of the specific needs of the University demographic
  • As a full time staff member, take a leadership role using collaboration and positive communications skills to bring together staff and nurture relationships


PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • M.D. and current licensure in the Province of Ontario; Member in good standing of the Ontario Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSO)
  • If a practicing specialist, member in good standing of the governing body of that specialty
  • Experience in medical practice management
  • Experience in occupational health
  • Experience in medical practice management
  • Experience in occupational health
  • Family Practice or Emergency experience, preferred
  • Additional experience in a related field, experience with care of children, adolescents and adults, preferred
  • Experience managing a complex corporate environment with multidisciplinary teams


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Expertise on issues of student health and public health with excellent interviewing and counselling skills
  • Demonstrating understanding of processes and practices used in a transformational program approach and health service outcomes
  • Passion for working with a student population
  • Ability to deliver compassionate, patient-focused care using exceptional clinical skills
  • Ability to understand patient needs and expectations and support the development of programs and services to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
  • Expertise in handling patient information in accordance with PHIPA
  • Decision-making skills to provide solutions that are consistent with available facts, constraints and probable consequences, while being decisive in ambiguous situations
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to perceive and understand the emotions of others and interact with them appropriately based on those emotions
  • Ability to remain highly motivated, resilient, innovative, and collaborative when faced with challenges
  • Ability to quickly respond and adjust priorities in response to unexpected events or changing circumstances
  • Ability to collaborate with others in solving complex problems
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office
