ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
NL Health Services – Eastern Rural Zone invites applications for a permanent full-time Pediatrician at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, NL. These positions are part of the Child and Women's Health Program.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with family physicians and other specialists to provide a multidisciplinary approach to pediatric care including clinic assessments, consultations, inpatient care, and on-call coverage. Outpatient assessments take place at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital and 5 Coish Place, with space shared with other specialists.
Consultations from the Emergency Department, family medicine community physicians, obstetrical units, school counsellors, and child, youth and family specialists can be expected. On-call including holidays and weekends is shared equitably amongst site Pediatricians.
There is one inpatient acute care pediatric bed at this hospital. If inpatient services are required, the Pediatrician will facilitate patient stabilization and transfer to the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre in St. John's, approximately 110 km away.
Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital provides services to a catchment area of approximately 20,000 people. The hospital has 41 acute care beds including palliative care, medical/surgical, obstetrics, pediatric, and ICU beds, as well as 9 ER beds and 44 long-term care beds. Services include anesthesia, chemotherapy, family practice, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, ICU/Cardiac, internal medicine, laboratory, palliative care, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, radiology, respiratory therapy, ultrasonography, and 24-hour emergency (Category A). Visiting clinics include neurology and ophthalmology.
NL Health Services is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and academic interests are encouraged and supported.

Clarenville is a vibrant service centre in eastern Newfoundland offering an exceptional quality of life. QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical Degree (MD) with specialist training
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Pediatrics (or equivalent)
- Eligible for and maintain licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
- Must satisfy credentialing and privilege requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide comprehensive pediatric care including clinic assessments, consultations, and inpatient care
- Work collaboratively with family physicians and other specialists in a multidisciplinary team
- Receive and manage consultations from the Emergency Department, community physicians, obstetrical units, school counsellors, and child, youth and family specialists
- Facilitate patient stabilization and transfer to the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre when required
- Participate in on-call coverage including weekends and holidays shared equitably among site Pediatricians
- Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
