ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone invites expressions of interest for the position of Clinical Chief — Anesthesia. This is a 0.3 FTE leadership role (0.2 FTE fixed + 0.1 FTE flex), suitable for a physician seeking to combine this leadership appointment with an existing clinical practice.
The Clinical Chief of Anesthesia is accountable for providing professional medical leadership and knowledge to the Anesthesia Division within the Eastern Urban Zone. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing and maintaining clinical services, leading the integration of physicians and other practitioners, and ensuring patients receive high quality, timely anesthetic care.
Operating in a complex and dynamic health care environment, the successful candidate is an innovative, collaborative, and transformational leader who will bring an unparalleled passion for health care.
The Clinical Chief of Anesthesia is accountable to the Senior Medical Director of the Zone and VP Medical Services, Chief of Staff within NL Health Services.
The term is three (3) years with annual review, which may be extended in accordance with NLHS Bylaws Respecting Medical Staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Anesthesiology (or equivalent)
- Current appointment to the medical staff of NL Health Services — Eastern Urban Zone
- Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice
- Experience and/or academic preparation in health care management or leadership
- Training and/or education in leadership and management considered a strong asset

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide effective clinical leadership throughout the Anesthesia Division
- Champion and advocate for the Division's services internally and externally
- Provide leadership for ongoing professional development, education, research, and innovation
- Participate in the ongoing planning and development of service delivery, facilitating and supporting change management processes
- Ensure full participation, buy-in, and morale are maintained throughout the Division
- Ensure the highest quality of anesthetic service is delivered consistently across all professional staff
- Support physician recruitment, retention, mentorship, and succession planning within the Division
- Promote quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-informed clinical practice
- Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
