Job Description
The West Nipissing General Hospital is centrally located only 1 hour from the Sudbury airport or even just a 4-hour drive from Toronto or Ottawa. Come enjoy the Northern Ontario lifestyle with a perfect mix of urban feel!
There exists an excellent referral relationship between our facility and the full-service North Bay Regional Health Centre, only 38 km to the east, and the Health Sciences North (Sudbury), 100 km to the west. Referrals are also made to Ottawa and Toronto, when necessary.
Job Summary
The ED Physician will be responsible for:
-assessing all visits presenting to the Emergency Department during the shift (average of 55 patients per 24-hour shift)
-the rare calls from Nursing Care Unit (NCU) and Complex Continuing Care (CCC) after 2300 hours until 0700 hours regarding patient care
Supports:
-2 RNs
-1 RPN
-A second on-call physician for back-up if needed
-Physician Assistant from 0800-1600 on weekdays.
-GP Anesthesia on-call 24/7 for truly ill patients
-X-Ray and CT 0700-2300 on-site, on call 2300-0700, 7 days/week
-Ultrasound 0700-1800 Mon-Fri and Sat 0700-1500 on-site
-Lab: 0700-2300 on-site, on call 2300-0700, 7 days/week
-Respiratory Therapy, Physiotherapy
-Discharge Planning
-Numerous visiting specialists including cardiology, urology, otolaryngology, psychiatry, and gastroenterology, etc.
Equipment:
-Portable ultrasound machine
-Difficult intubation equipment (glidescope)
-2 portable cardiac/defibrillator monitors
-Rapid infuser
-Access to a portable x-ray machine
Opportunities
Flexible scheduling with both 12-hour and/or 24-hour shifts
Teach medical students/residents through WNGH’s affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), McMaster, University of Ottawa etc.
Compensation
The ED Physicians are funded through the Emergency Department Alternative Funding Agreement (ED AFA). The ED AFA offers an hourly rate ($202.50/ hour) along with a 22.5% return on shadow billing for regular shifts with a 25% return on shadow billing on statutory holidays.
Hours
Flexible scheduling with both 12 hour and/or 24-hour shifts available.
10 (12 hour) shifts (or more) per month.
