Job Description

Physician Opportunity in Brockville: A City Built on Excellence, Camaraderie, and Community

The Brockville Family Health Organization (FHO) has several opportunities to take over a well-established practice or start a new practice.

This is a rare opportunity to build your career in a beautiful, welcoming community where you can truly enjoy a rich professional and personal life. The City of Brockville is nestled along the St. Lawrence River in the heart of the world-renowned 1000 Islands region, offering year-round natural beauty and adventure. From boating, sailing with our vibrant and active sailing club, and world-famous scuba diving in the summer, to cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and outdoor skating in winter, this is a place where work-life balance isn’t just a dream—it’s a way of life

A City Built on Excellence – In and Out of the Clinic

Brockville is a city with a proud legacy—one where athletic achievement and community spirit are deeply woven into its identity. From the legendary Brockville Braves junior hockey team—whose alumni include NHL greats like Larry Robinson and Wayne Simmonds—to the Brockville Rowing Club, home to Olympic silver medalists Conlin McCabe and Betty Craig, and two-time Olympian Dolores Young, Brockville has long nurtured excellence. The city has produced top-tier athletes across a range of sports: Olympian and national track and field champion Tim Nedow, Olympic speed skater Brock Miron, WNBA All-Star and Olympic basketball player Stacey Dales, and Olympic equestrian bronze medalist Gina Smith, who trained at Brockville’s own Franklands Farm.

But it’s not just a city for elite athletes—Brockville is a place where active lifestyles begin. With a thriving network of youth and recreational programs, it's an ideal community for raising a family. Children have access to competitive dance schools, the Brockville Blazers basketball program, Brockville Soccer Club leagues, and a robust Brockville Little League that hosts provincial championships. The city also boasts a strong youth football culture, led by the Brockville Buccaneers, who continue to foster athletic skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. On the water, young athletes can explore sailing and rowing through summer camps at the Brockville Yacht Club and Brockville Rowing Club. The local YMCA acts as a community hub, offering fitness facilities, swimming pools, and programs for all ages—from youth sports to aquatics and wellness.

Brockville’s schools complement this vibrant activity landscape. Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI) provides a rich academic tradition, Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS) shines with its athletics program, Académie Catholique Ange-Gabriel celebrates Francophone culture and academic growth, and St. Mary’s High School is well-regarded for its strong academics and lively extracurricular activities. For families with younger children, Brockville offers several excellent elementary schools—Swift Waters, Westminster Public, and St. John Bosco Catholic—that provide a nurturing environment where kids can grow and learn with individualized attention. With smaller program sizes and less congestion, children enjoy more coaching, more ice time, more field time, and greater opportunities to thrive.

For adults and families, Brockville is a playground for all seasons. Whether it's sailing on the St. Lawrence, world-class scuba diving among historic shipwrecks, or enjoying festivals, trails, and scenic waterfront walks—outdoor adventure is always close at hand. Cultural life thrives too. The Brockville Operatic Society has entertained audiences since 1952 with high-quality musical theatre, while the annual Brockville Music Festival—established by the Lions Club in 1951—celebrates and nurtures local musical talent with professional adjudication. Golfers enjoy the beautiful 18-hole Brockville Country Club course, which transforms into a curling destination in winter, offering year-round recreation. Foodies can savor local flavors at charming cafes, pubs, and fine dining restaurants, many featuring fresh ingredients from the nearby farms.

A Collegial, Close-Knit Medical Community

In Brockville, you’ll join a tight-knit group of physicians who support one another both professionally and personally. Our weekly physician hockey group isn’t just about staying active—it’s a chance to unwind, laugh, and build lasting friendships that make the work more meaningful.

Collaboration is a cornerstone of the Brockville FHO, supported by monthly physician meetings that foster open communication, and peer connection. The FHO also coordinates Practice-Based Small Group (PBSG) learning sessions, offering a practical and engaging approach to Continuing Medical Education (CME) that fits seamlessly into our collegial environment. Referrals and interprofessional relationships are built on trust, camaraderie, and mutual respect, creating an environment where you can grow, thrive, and feel truly supported.

Your Practice in Brockville

The available practice includes a roster of approximately 1,200 patients co-located alongside fellow physicians, administrative staff, and nursing support—offering the benefits of collaboration without sacrificing autonomy.  The electronic medical record system used in the Brockville FHO is Telus PS Suite, with virtual care and secure messaging options available. Telus PS Suite is well integrated with Ocean eReferral, a centralized electronic referral platform; PrescribeIT, an e-prescribing service which electronically transmit prescriptions from PS Suite to a pharmacy; eConsult, a secure, web-based platform that allows physicians timely access to specialist advice through an online platform; as well as incoming electronic lab and hospital reports.

You’ll join a collegial and experienced group of 15 physicians within the Brockville FHO, a part of the Upper Canada Family Health Team (UCFHT). The UCFHT serves over 32,000 patients across nine sites. As a member of the UCFHT, your patients will benefit from a broad range of interdisciplinary programs and services delivered by skilled allied health professionals.

These include:

  • Nutrition counseling
  • Mental health support
  • Foot care
  • Smoking cessation and lung health services
  • Memory clinic
  • Preventive care initiatives
  • Nurse Practitioner-led acute care clinic
  • Coordinated care planning
  • System navigation support

This integrated model allows you to provide truly comprehensive, team-based care - enhancing outcomes and streamlining patient support.

Practice Model & Opportunities

The Brockville FHO operates on a blended capitation model, offering a stable base income with additional Fee-for-Service billing.

Interested in expanding your scope? Brockville offers a wealth of options to diversify your clinical interests. Whether you’re drawn to emergency medicine, hospitalist work, internal medicine, anesthesia, long-term care, palliative care, or addictions and mental health, Brockville General Hospital provides excellent opportunities for professional growth and cross-disciplinary engagement. Learn more at brockvillegeneralhospital.ca.

Return of Service & Supervision Support

Brockville is currently designated as an Area of High Physician Need (AHPN), making it an ideal location for physicians fulfilling a Return of Service commitment. Supervision is also available for new graduates and internationally trained physicians. The Brockville FHO has successfully supported several physicians through this process and has extensive experience working with professionals trained in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Australia.

Location, Lifestyle & Accessibility

One of Brockville's most significant advantages is its affordable cost of living, which stands in stark contrast to larger Canadian urban centers. This allows physicians and their families to achieve a higher standard of living, including access to comfortable housing options, often with scenic views or easy access to recreational areas. Brockville offers the perfect balance of small-town charm and big-city convenience. Nestled along the stunning shores of the St. Lawrence River and situated along Highway 401, it provides easy access to major urban centers:

  • 70 km from Kingston
  • 110 km from Ottawa
  • 210 km from Montreal
  • 340 km from Toronto
  • 591 km from both Boston and New York City
  • 5049.42 km from the North Pole! (feels closer in the Winter)

Known for its affordability and high quality of life, Brockville is an ideal place to raise a family, boasting excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, a strong sense of community where neighbors support each other, breathtaking waterfront views, vibrant parks, and year-round outdoor activities.

With big-city amenities just a short drive away, you get the convenience of shopping, dining, and healthcare options without the hassle of urban congestion. Brockville is truly a place where you can build your career, enjoy an active lifestyle, and raise a family—all surrounded by natural beauty and welcoming people.

Join us in Brockville—where medicine meets meaning, and life beyond the clinic is just as rewarding.
