About Us

Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) is a 37-bed community hospital in rural Ontario that works with its partners to improve the health of communities in Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry and surrounding areas. The hospital is nestled in the family friendly community of Alexandria, Ontario, roughly one hour east of Ottawa via Highway 417 or one hour west of Montreal on Highway 401 or 417 and 25 minutes north of the City of Cornwall and the Cornwall-Massena border crossing, using county roads 20, 34 or Highway 138, and along the Via Rail train route.

 We are a culturally vibrant community with always something to see and do. We have an excellent variety of shopping and dining options for our size. If you love to stay active year-round, we’ve got you covered with year-round soccer, golf, cross-country ski and fat bike trails, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, skydiving, kayak/canoeing, and a community pool.

 HGMH is run by family physicians providing inpatient, emergency and primary care services. Our emergency department serves approximately 20,000 people per year. We have in-house x-ray, ultrasound and lab, and a CT coming soon. We are home of the regional stroke and geriatric rehabilitation programs serving the entire population east of Ottawa.  Because of this, we have excellent inpatient Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and SLP support.

 Family Practice

•        Join existing Alexandria & Region FHO
•        Turnkey in-hospital furnished office space available, priced below market value (includes approx. $5000/y in housekeeping, utilities, & maintenance services at no additional cost)

•        $40,000 recruitment bonus or 5 years free rent for those opening family practice on site with a 5-year return of service, OR
•        $10,000 recruitment bonus with a 2-year return of service providing hospitalist coverage with no onsite family practice

 About Our In-patient Unit

• MRP for acute Medicine Unit (22 beds) – round daily for acute patients, weekly for ALC
• 1:6 rotation frequency (with aim to reduce to 1:7-1:8 with recruitment)
• Covering 1-2 weeks at a time, depending on physician preference
• Covering 15 bed Rehab Unit Friday PM to Monday AM for urgent issues only and assist with vacation coverage as needed.
• We have a tight-knit and supportive group of physicians, and many experienced nurses that are great to work with
• Payment: an average weekly HOCC stipend of $2,451.23 (subject to change with new agreement), in addition to OHIP billings
• Electronic EMR system
• In-house x-ray, ultrasound, PFT, BMD and lab
• Urgent CT and specialist consultation support is available through nearby hospital

• PT, OT +/- SLP support available M-F
• Visiting consultant clinics: endoscopy, respirology, stress testing, lump & bumps, general surgery, internal medicine, gynecology, urology, orthopedics, pain clinic
• E-consult available (useful for derm, wound care support, etc.)
• Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry team available
• Leadership opportunities available within the hospital 

Family Practice

•        Join existing Alexandria & Region FHO

 Qualifications

• Be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario;
• Have a CFPC or similar certification.
• Hold liability insurance for medical practice in Ontario.
• BLS certification, renewed every 2 years.
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) within last 6-months.
• Bilingualism in French and English an asset.
