Two positions available for up to 9 weeks (or longer, if willing). Will consider a couple or friends who are looking to locum together.
Location: Nipigon, Ontario - 1 hour drive from Thunder Bay and the Thunder Bay International Airport on an almost fully divided highway. Very small town of approx. 1700 with hospital catchment of 4179. Physicians group fully staffed with 5 other doctors. Local back-up available. Funding for site visits are available for interested physicians through Community Assessment Visit Program | Northern Health Programs | ontario.ca.
Hospital has 12 inpatient beds, Emergency department with 6 beds, and LTC. Lab & X-ray available 24hr on-call, Ultrasound available during daytime hours. POCUS available in ER.
Work week: very flexible! 2 in person clinic days, one 24hr home call shift per week. Can do 3 days all in a row or split up with a post-call day. Additional call or clinic shifts available if desired to cover other group members as well. Clinic only locum will also be considered!
Residents welcome: Reimbursement's for travel and accommodation available for visiting residents through NORSTAR: Faculty-Resident Dyads | Ontario Health.
Payment: RNPGA under Rural Family Medicine Locum Program
(RFMLP)
Inpatient rounding is divided amongst clinic & call doctors each day. Usually low census around 1-4 inpatients, low acuity. Rounding starts at 9am after handover. Clinic starts at 10am. Patients seen 10-12, then 1-4. We see 12-14 clinic patients per day including phone visits some days. Call volume ranges from 10-20 in 24hrs with majority seen during daytime hours. Urgent care running onsite weekdays with NP that helps pick up patients too.
Weekend call shifts available once every 5-6 weeks at hourly call rate. Can cover full weekend or split if preferred.
Kayak, canoe, and fishing equipment can be available free of use while here. Gym membership to town gyms included.
Families welcome (pet friendly as well), house has 3 furnished bedrooms (two rooms with queen bed, one with crib and rocking chair). Additional beds can be made available for larger families if needed. Cleaner available once weekly. House has been fully renovated between 2024-2025 with brand new appliances and has a beautiful view of the Nipigon river from the new large front deck.
