Job Description
The Division of Thoracic Surgery is seeking a full-time thoracic surgeon. We are well supported by a multidisciplinary team of respirologists, gastroenterologists, medical and radiation oncologists, as well as thoracic anaesthetists to provide compassionate care. The surgeon will primarily work out of Brampton Civic Hospital and participate as an equal member of the division with on-call duties. Remuneration is fee-for-service as set by the OHIP Schedule of Benefits and Fees as well as an on-call stipend.
About the Program
Osler is a designated Level 1 centre for thoracic surgery and meets all requirements set out by Cancer Care Ontario. As a centre of excellence for minimal access surgery, we perform more than 95% of lung resections for primary lung cancer and esophageal resections for malignant disease using minimally invasive techniques. We developed the first lung cancer screening program in Canada and have screened over 2,000 patients since its inception. Our strong partnership with oncology and pathology provides excellent access to clinical trials and next‑generation sequencing. In addition, the Division of Thoracic Surgery maintains partnerships with Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. We have also recently launched a thoracic surgery robotics program utilizing the da Vinci platform, further expanding our commitment to innovation and advanced patient care.
Job Qualifications
The successful candidate must have expertise in both benign and malignant thoracic disease processes. They must have proficiency in minimally invasive skills. There is also the opportunity for robotic surgery. They must demonstrate strong interprofessional skills, and communication skills. As we serve a diverse population base, additional languages will be an asset. Candidates must have a Certificate of Registration to practice from the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario and be certified or eligible for certification in thoracic surgery by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada.
