The West Nipissing General Hospital (WNGH) is currently recruiting two part-time/ Locum Family Medicine physicians to join our team.  Sharing the workload with our Full-Time Hospitalist allows you time to enjoy some of our wonderful outdoor activities and the community of West Nipissing. Facilities

The WNGH boasts a clean, modern facility with excellent support services. We have 99 beds (31 Acute, 19 Complex Continuing Care, 1 Hospice Suite and 48 Long-Term Care) in addition to a 24-hour Emergency Department. Currently, the community is served by nine full-time general practitioners, one (1) full-time Hospitalist, one (1) full-time general internist, visiting surgeons and visiting specialists. We host regular cardiology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, sleep clinic, and psychiatry clinics with visiting specialists.

Nursing Care Unit

WNGH has 25 Acute Care beds (required to be seen every second day), 6 ALC (required to be seen twice per week), 19 Complex Continuing Care (required to be seen once per month) and 1 Hospice Suite. Our team includes RNs, RPNs, PSWs, a Dietitian, a Discharge Planner, Social workers, a Pharmacist, a Respiratory Therapist and a Physiotherapist –all working together with our physicians to provide patient-centred care.

Scheduling:

Shifts are either from Monday, 8 AM through Thursday at 8 PM or from Thursday 8 PM until Monday at 8 AM. For those of you requesting full work weeks, please feel free to reach out to Medical Affairs to discuss options.

Our locum hospitalists (whose base practice is at least 40 km away from WNGH) will receive a daily $300 honorarium for every approved work and travel day, along with continued reimbursement on your accommodations and travel expenses through Health Force Ontario’s Northern Specialist Locum Program (NSLP).

The Hospitalist is required to complete daily rounds and be available by phone from 0800-2200. The Hospitalist will also be responsible for the infrequent calls from the Long Term Care Department from 2000 until 0700 hours. The Hospitalist must be within 30 minutes of WNGH to respond to ED backup should the ED become overly busy or the ED physician has to leave on a transfer with a critically ill patient. (The hospitalist will be paid hourly for the time spent working in the ED department). The Hospitalist stipend is $1500/24-hour day plus applicable Fee for Service Billings (averages $1000-$1300+/day).

Alternatively, our Hospitalists have the option to have one of our ED physicians provide this backup instead. The Hospitalist will still be required to complete daily rounds and be available by phone from 0800-2200 for the NCU/CCC unit but will not be called into the Emergency Department for backup support. The stipend for this option is $1000/ 24-hour day plus the applicable Fee for Service Billings. ($250/12-hour shift will be paid to the physician covering the ED.)

If interested additional opportunities for Emergency Department shifts are available before or after your hospitalist rotation. The ED AFA offers an hourly rate ($174.85/ hour) and a 10% return on shadow billing for regular shifts with a 25% return on shadow billing on statutory holidays.).  ED Shifts are 12 hours 0800-2000 and 2000-0800.
