Job Description

Come work as a Family Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

The community of Bella Bella is seeking a Family Physician with Emergency experience to join their healthcare team, providing comprehensive services to its residents.

Enjoy the efficiency of integrated clinic, hospital, and pharmacy services within a single facility. Our team delivers routine clinic care, emergency services, and inpatient care to a predominantly Heiltsuk Nation community of approximately 2,000 individuals. Primary healthcare is provided through Vancouver Coastal Health’s ƛ̓uxválásu̓ilas Heiltsuk Hospital (kwil-valas-iwaylas) and the Bella Bella Medical Clinic. The hospital features acute, residential, and emergency care, complemented by diagnostic imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, and visiting ultrasound services.

The facility is staffed by seven physicians, with three to four physicians on duty daily, and includes five patient/doctor exam rooms. ƛ̓uxválásu̓ilas Heiltsuk Hospital offers five acute care beds, seven continuing care beds, and a 24/7 emergency department with four beds. Our ER is open 24/7. Call schedule is 1-in-3 or 1-in-4 split shifts (11/13-hour shifts during the week, 24-hour shifts on weekends/on holidays, no patients booked after a night on call).

Bella Bella is a picturesque island community located off the central coast of British Columbia, 480 kilometers northwest of Vancouver. Its stunning natural surroundings include channels, inlets, and old-growth forests. The oceanfront hospital serves as a central hub for community life. Recreational opportunities are abundant for outdoor enthusiasts. Activities such as kayaking among the nearby islands, fishing, and eco-tours from Shearwater resort or local providers are readily available. The hospital’s vantage point offers potential sightings of humpback whales, orcas, and sea lions.

Applicants will require ACLS, ATLS and PALS certification to work in Emergency. If any of the certifications have expired, the CARE certification can replace the expired certifications.

Please ensure that you upload your current CV and provide any supplemental documentation (if applicable)
