Canadian Physician Opportunities

Funded by fee-for-service through the Medical Services Plan of British Columbia; stipend from Vancouver Acute for Doctor of the Day (DOD) call; stipend from UBC for clinical teaching of medical students and residents.

Fee-for-Service (physician billing)

Fee-for-Service (physicians bill the Medical Services Branch). Emergency room coverage remunerated via the Rural Emergency Room Stabilization Agreement: $233.20/hour (08:00–17:00) and $268.47/hour (17:00–08:00). Eligible for incentives including the Rural Physician Incentive Program (up to $200,000 over five years) and the SMA Retention Fund ($7,000–$14,000/year for full‑time work).

Contract. Minimum potential: $332,551 (SHA) + $120,000 (Mosaic); Maximum potential: $385,007 (SHA) + $150,000 (Mosaic). Compensation inclusive of SHA clinical duties (187 clinic days, long term care, acute care, home care, and equitable share of after-hours ER coverage).

Contract; $375,405.00 - $431,715.00 (commensurate with experience)

Population-based funding (switching to LFP funding). Compensation to be discussed during the interview and based on experience and qualifications.

Physicians recruited to these positions have the choice of being remunerated either through Fee for Service billing or by participating in the Co-Managed Care Clinical Alternate Relationship Plan (ARP). The current gross compensation rate for the ARP is $444, 645 per annum for a full-time commitment (1.0 FTE, or 1928 hours per annum). In addition, After-Hours Time Premium payments apply for clinical services provided during evenings/weekends/holidays ($89.64 / hour) and for night coverage ($183.08 / hour), payable on top of base compensation.

Based on the source posting, the Clinical ARP model for family physicians may provide compensation of up to approximately $444, 645 per annum for a full-time commitment (1.0 FTE, or 1928 hours per annum). In addition, After-Hours Time Premium payments apply for clinical services provided during evenings/weekends/holidays ($89.64 / hour) and for night coverage ($183.08 / hour), payable on top of base compensation. The Alberta Medical Association is currently revising the Clinical ARP models for Internal Medicine and Other specialties. These could be applied in the future.

Fee for Service Through the Outreach and Travelling Physician Support Policy Visiting Specialists are eligible for monetary supports: The outreach financial incentive, at a minimum, requires one way travel greater than 50kms, and pays at $1/kms up to a maximum 500kms one way. Zonal Medical Affairs will calculate payments using a round-trip amount on a monthly basis. For approved outreach service requests AHS will remunerate mileage/car rentals/taxis, meals, flights and accommodation in keeping with the AHS Travel Policy.

Remuneration for this position will be fee-for-service.

The model is for fee-for-service, and the salary range will range from approximately $250,000 to $500,000 per annum based on service volume and patient load (as per SOMB).
