Job Description
The St. Joseph’s Health Centre (SJHC) Academic Urban Family Health Team, part of the Department of Family & Community Medicine and the Primary and Community Care Program at Unity Health Toronto, invites applications for an Academic Family Physician with a focus on Comprehensive Family Medicine and Family Medicine Obstetrics. The option of doing a locum first is available.
Qualifications and Experience
- MD and CCFP certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada
- Fellowship in Family Medicine Obstetrics is preferred but not necessary
- Eligibility for, or existing, academic appointment within the University of Toronto DFCM
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, education and academic scholarship
- Experience in quality improvement is an asset
· Demonstrated commitment to caring for vulnerable and diverse populations
Clinical and Academic Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive family medicine care
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate learners
- Participate in family medicine obstetrics hard call (~1 in 15) with the St. Joe’s Toronto Primary Care Obstetrics Group (stjoesfamilyob.com), cover the Early Pregnancy Management Clinic while on call, and assist with C-sections
- Additional academic leadership roles are in addition to the clinical time
Position Details
- Clinical FTE: 0.6–0.8
- Funded through an Alternate Funding Plan (AFP), with additional FFS opportunities (FMOB, inpatient, C-section assist)

The SJHC Academic Urban Family Health Team is a dynamic, inclusive, and collaborative group serving Toronto’s west end. We train 22-24 PGY1s and PGY2s each year and 14 clinical clerks in addition to learners from other health disciplines. We provide care to a culturally and economically diverse population of 530,000 and have expertise in addiction medicine, palliative care, low-risk obstetrics, and care of the elderly.
