Job Description
Position Overview
Join a department that is redefining Academic Psychiatry in Ontario. The Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University in Kingston invites applications for two innovative and collaborative Clinical Academic Psychiatrists to join the Division of Forensic and Correctional Psychiatry. The Division provides specialized services to justice-involved adults with mental disorders, enhancing care through evidence-based practices, education, research, and community involvement. The successful candidate(s) will play a key role in advancing clinical care and academic/scholarly service in the field of Forensic Psychiatry. This posting is to fill new positions within the University.
Among the two available positions, one involves providing psychiatric services to the Ontario Region of Correctional Service Canada (CSC). This role includes delivering psychiatric services and consultations to interdisciplinary teams as well as on-call services for the Ontario Region of CSC. The other position is situated within the Forensic Program at Providence Care Hospital, which manages a 30-bedded mixed-gender unit and a forensic outreach service that accepts patients from across Ontario and interprovincial transfers. There is also the potential to explore a hybrid role that integrates both settings, subject to a case-by-case evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications and personal preference.
Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. They will also hold or be eligible for certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent). Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and scholarly activity and uphold Queen’s commitments to equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity (EDII) in both clinical and academic practice.
Successful candidates will join a department with strong divisional leadership, expanding specialty programs, a supportive academic culture, customized clinical-academic blends, and a clear strategic direction focused on access to care, harmonization, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Protected academic time, mentorship, and opportunities for leadership are available.
