Parry Sound, ON – General Internal Medicine: West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC) is seeking expressions of interest for General Internal Medicine, or sub-specialty with an interest in General Medicine. WPSHC provides a wide range of hospital and community services to the area’s 21,000 permanent residents and 100,000+ summer residents.

Our health centre includes a 70-bed acute care facility with a 6-bed ICU, two state-of-the-art OR suites, an endoscopy suite, and a dedicated minor procedures suite. The Internal Medicine Service currently staffs a closed ICU, and provides consultative services to the Emergency Room and general inpatient wards. Diagnostics on site include 24/7 Lab/DI (including CT) as well as weekday General Ultrasound, Cardiovascular Ultrasound including stress echo. Specialists at WPSHC see a broad spectrum of clinical presentations, and have good subspecialist/tertiary support from Health Sciences North, as well as other colleagues further south. In addition to a broad range of clinical opportunities, there are ample teaching and research opportunities available through our affiliation with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Parry Sound has a Rurality Index for Ontario (RIO) score of 65 and new physicians can be eligible for provincial incentives. Additional funding is available through the Northern Ontario Specialists Alternate Payment Program, as well as the Northern Physician Retention Initiative (after four years).   

Recreational activities and cultural events In the community abound. Extensive trails are In place for snowmobiling, nordic skiing, cycling, and hiking. Some of the best boating in the world takes place on Georgian Bay amid the world’s largest freshwater archipelago. Qualifications: Medical Degree and current license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario; demonstrated ability in working successfully with an inter-professional health care team; and interest in living in a rural setting.
