Practice Opportunity

SJGHEL's Emergency Department sees approximately 30–40 patients per 24 hours, offering a balanced workload and the opportunity to provide comprehensive emergency care in a supportive rural hospital setting. Emergency Physicians work alongside an experienced team of nurses, hospitalists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, specialists, and allied health professionals.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Emergency Department coverage
• Participation in a structured physician handover process
• Collaboration with Hospitalists, Anesthesia, Obstetrics, and General Surgery services
• Work within a supportive interdisciplinary care environment

Emergency Department Alternate Funding Arrangement (EDAFA)

• Competitive EDAFA compensation model
• Approximately 37% shadow billing

Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI)

Physicians may be eligible for the Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI), which provides approximately $118,000 over four years:

• Year 1: 40%
• Year 2: 15%
• Year 3: 15%
• Year 4: 30%

Qualifications

• Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Certification in Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM or FRCPC), or Family Physicians interested in incorporating Emergency Department work into their practice
• Eligible for hospital privileges at St. Joseph's General Hospital
• Commitment to collaborative, patient-centred care and team-based medicine
