DIVISION OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES
CLINICAL ACADEMIC POSITION, CHAIR
& Site Physician Lead (London Health Sciences Centre)
The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University and London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) are seeking a Chair and Site Physician Lead.
ABOUT THE DIVISION: The Division of Infectious Diseases at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London is
- composed of 7 full-time members.
- has a comprehensive array of services including adult infectious diseases, infection control, antimicrobial stewardship and a clinical and basic sciences research program.
- conducts a busy outpatient program caring for patients living with HIV and those with General Infectious Diseases issues and has dedicated outreach clinics at the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre as well as within the community to care for marginalized patients.
- has a Royal College Certified Infectious Diseases Training Program and is actively involved in the education and supervision of undergraduate medical students as well as Internal Medicine residents.
- provides specialized care and a specialized postdoctoral training program in Transplant Infectious Diseases.
ACADEMIC AND CLINICAL EXPECTATIONS: The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Engage members and stakeholders for the vision and direction of the Division, identify strengths of the Division and opportunities to expand its deliverables as related to teaching, research and clinical innovation.
- Participate collaboratively in partnership with the university, the affiliated research institutes and both academic hospital organizations to strategically enhance the national and international profile of the Division, Department, and University.
- Be adept at change management, conflict resolution, negotiation, and communication in order to advocate for the needs of the Division, its members, and the community.
- Provide support to its members, recruit and retain new members, and foster an ongoing culture of trust, accountability and belonging within the Division.
- Ensure fiscal responsibility for the Division.
- Work collaboratively to develop and implement innovative care models locally and regionally.
- Provide clinical coverage at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Center and on-call coverage citywide.
- Teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate learners and mentor them towards a career in Infectious Diseases.
Applicants considered at the rank of Associate Professor must have demonstrated regional/national expertise in their field and those considered at Full Professor must be a recognized expert in their field at the national/international level.
Academic and Clinical Expectations: The successful candidate is expected to have completed training in Infectious Diseases. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Infectious Diseases by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. The successful candidate will join a busy academic practice within the practice of Infectious Diseases. Their clinical and academic roles will be negotiable and reflect the candidate’s academic focus and areas of clinical expertise. The Chair/Chief will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise residents in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. The successful candidate will hold a limited term academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Hold an MD, MBBS, or equivalent.
- Be certified (or eligible for certification) in Infectious Diseases by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
- Be licensed (or eligible for licensure) through the College of Physicians of Surgeons of Ontario
- Be eligible for or hold an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or above in the Department of Medicine at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
- Have evidence of their abilities to meet the expectations noted in section B.
- Communicate (oral and written) proficiently in English
COMPENSATION DETAILS: Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of the following sources: Fee for service (OHIP billings), Alternative Funding Plan, academic salary, and specialty review funding.
