Job Description

Arnprior Regional Health (ARH) is a progressive health care organization serving Arnprior and its surrounding communities. ARH includes an acute care hospital, long-term care home, community programs and primary care services. Located less than 30 minutes west of Ottawa, ARH is committed to providing exceptional care through innovation, collaboration and a strong connection to the communities we serve.

We are seeking a collaborative physician leader to serve as our next Chief of Staff. This is a meaningful opportunity to help shape high-quality, community-based health care within our catchment area while maintaining a strong connection to clinical practice in a small, rural hospital environment.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Board of Directors and serving as Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee, the Chief of Staff is a key member of ARH’s senior leadership structure. The role provides medical leadership across the organization, supports physician engagement and accountability, and helps to advance clinical quality, patient safety, medical innovation, and strategic priorities from a physician perspective.

This role is ideal for a physician leader who values collaborative relationships, practical innovation, and the opportunity to make a visible difference in a close-knit community hospital. The successful candidate will join a committed Board, dedicated leadership team, engaged medical staff, and interdisciplinary colleagues who are focused on delivering excellent care for the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Leadership

  • Provide leadership to the Medical Staff and Medical Advisory Committee.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety and continuous improvement.
  • Support physician engagement and collaboration across programs and services.

Medical Advisory Committee

  • Chair meetings of the Medical Advisory Committee.
  • Provide recommendations and reports to the Board of Directors regarding credentialing, professional practice, quality of care and medical staff matters.

Governance and Strategic Leadership

  • Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Support organizational strategic priorities and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to advance hospital goals.

Professional Staff Accountability

  • Oversee physician credentialing and reappointments.
  • Promote adherence to professional standards, hospital by-laws, policies and procedures.
  • Support physician performance management processes, where required

Qualifications:

  • Licensed physician in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • Eligible for and/or currently holding professional staff privileges at Arnprior Regional Health.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a health care environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and physician engagement.
  • Experience working with medical leadership committees, governance structures and interdisciplinary teams is preferred.

Time Commitment

The Chief of Staff role is expected to average approximately one (1) day per week, with flexibility in how time is distributed based on organizational priorities, committee schedules, and emerging issues. This structure allows the successful candidate to continue practicing medicine while contributing meaningfully to hospital-wide leadership.

Compensation

A competitive leadership stipend / compensation arrangement will be discussed with qualified candidates during the recruitment process.
