GENERAL CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST -Extensive Needs Service
CHEO, a 150-bed pediatric hospital in Ottawa, ON, Canada is seeking a child and adolescent psychiatrist to work in the new Extensive Needs Service. The job is a full-time two-year term position. CHEO is launching a new service for children and youth with extensive and urgent behavioural, social, medical, and mental health support needs. This new service will address the needs of children who are falling through the gaps of our current healthcare system, and who are presenting with behaviour health challenges. It will bring together a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals to provide wrap-around care to the family to stabilize their situation, rapidly implement an intervention plan aimed at addressing the needs of the family as a whole and facilitate appropriate transition to community-based supports. We are building a dedicated pathway for these vulnerable children and youth up to 18 years of age.
We are looking for a Psychiatrist and change champion who can help lead our team of dedicated professionals to build and implement this new service. Join us if you love the idea of getting in on the ground floor and creating something new.
Academic Setting and Duties
Their interdisciplinary team provides services for children and youth with neurodevelopmental disorders, including global developmental delay, intellectual disability, autism, FASD, ADHD, and others. The team consists of physicians, psychologists, behaviour analysts, nurse practitioners, and several other health professionals.
The duties for this position include delivering assessment, diagnosis and psychiatric care for children and youth. Including pharmacological treatments and supporting psychotherapeutic interventions to optimize patient well-being. They will engage in program development and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Participating in coordinated car planning, working closely with health professionals and families to ensure comprehensive support. This opportunity is involved in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with possibility to combine roles across clinical areas. As a member of the Department of Psychiatry, the person in this position will have the opportunity to teach medical learners and engage in scholarly work and will also participate in the CHEO call schedule.
Required Skills
. Training in treatments for neurodevelopmental disorders is desirable, but not a requirement. If necessary, training in these modalities will be provided. The candidate should enjoy working in an environment where continuous quality improvement is a key feature of the daily work. Bilingualism (English/French) is desirable, although not a requirement.
Training
MD from an accredited institution; experience in child psychiatry or certification from the Royal College or equivalent; career characteristics meeting the criteria for a faculty appointment in the uOttawa Department of Psychiatry.
