Number of Positions: Four

Posting Date: February 17, 2026

Closing Date to Apply: Consideration of applications will begin on March 18, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.

Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2026 or as negotiated.

Vacancy Disclosure Statement: The positions are newly created positions.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, is seeking to fill four (4) new surgical pathologist positions in full-time clinical academic appointments.

Position Profile: Full-time Limited-Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. With this recruitment the Department is expanding its pathologist team in order to serve our patients better and to improve work-life balance for team members. The department is subspecialized and is open to receiving applications from pathologists who have experience and/or fellowship training in a variety of subspecialties. Hematopathology, pediatric pathology and dermatopathology are of particular interest.

Academic activities will be tailored to the candidate’s career goals. Clinical expectations will include participation in one to three subspecialty services and in intraoperative consultations. Autopsy work is excluded. Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance in teaching, research and health care leadership, where applicable, as well as qualifications (including subspecialty and enhanced training) and experience. Candidates that have demonstrated ability in the identified areas of opportunity will be given priority, as will candidates that have demonstrated past or potential excellence in teaching and scholarly activity. Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to be an exemplary team player will likewise be given priority.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent degree and be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and must have certification in Anatomical, Clinical or General Pathology.

Compensation: Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of hospital funding aligned with the Ontario MOH Laboratory Medicine Funding Framework Agreement. Positions are subject to budget approval.

Affirmation Policy Statement: Western, like many postsecondary institutions in Canada, is moving beyond sole reliance upon Indigenous self-identification in its hiring processes. This is to safeguard against the use of incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information in circumstances in which a candidate has made a declaration of Indigenous citizenship or membership. Candidates who are invited for an interview or who are short-listed, and who have made a declaration of Indigenous citizenship or membership for material advantage at Western, including where required or preferred for the position, will be asked to have their declaration of Indigenous citizenship or membership affirmed through a relational accountability process, led by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII), that is consistent with Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing. Please contact the OII directly for details on the affirmation processes: https://indigenous.uwo.ca/. The policy can be viewed at: POLICY 1.58 - Affirming Declarations of Indigenous Citizenship or Membership at Western University.

The Department: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine fulfills the academic mandate of London Health Sciences Centre as a research-intensive acute care tertiary and quaternary teaching hospital. The Division of Pathology has an annual workload of approximately 65,000 surgical specimens, 15,000 cytology specimens and 1,000 autopsies. With a strong history of collegiality and a record of excellence in many areas of diagnostic service, teaching and research, it represents an environment conducive to career and personal development.

For more than 150 years, LHSC has provided patient care for the people of London, the region, and beyond. Many national and international medical breakthroughs have been pioneered at LHSC, to the benefit of patients at home and around the world. LHSC is the site of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and within the city, operates laboratory facilities, including Pathology, at St. Joseph’s Healthcare London. The hospitals share a rich tradition of strong and close collaboration.

The City: Western’s campus is in London, Ontario, a city of approximately 530,000 located on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Lūnaapéewak and Chonnonton Nations, on lands connected with the London Township and Sombra Treaties of 1796 and the Dish with One Spoon Covenant Wampum, and is located midway between Toronto and Detroit. With an extensive park system, river valleys, tree-lined streets, and bicycle paths, London is known as the “Forest City”.
