Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary community medical clinic in NE Calgary, an area known for its cultural diversity, strong community relationships, and high demand for primary care services. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive patient-centered care while collaborating with a supportive team of healthcare professionals.
Position Summary
The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients across a range of mental health conditions. The role involves medication management, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and delivery of patient-centred, evidence-based psychiatric care in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements in Alberta.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and formulate diagnoses
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans
Provide medication management and ongoing psychiatric follow-up
Assess and manage psychiatric risk, including crisis intervention
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, psychologists, and social workers
Provide consultation services to other healthcare providers as required
Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough clinical documentation
Participate in on-call coverage, rounds, and case conferences as required
Comply with CPSA standards, clinical policies, and professional guidelines
Engage in continuous professional development and quality improvement activities
Qualifications:
Medical Degree (MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution
Completion of specialist training in Psychiatry
Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
Eligibility for specialist recognition in Psychiatry (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent)
Eligibility to work in Canada
Good standing with all applicable medical regulatory authorities
Preferred / Commonly Requested
Board certification in Psychiatry (RCPSC or equivalent)
Experience in inpatient and/or outpatient psychiatry
Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Ability to provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment
Strong psychopharmacology and treatment-planning skills
Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
Willingness to participate in on-call coverage (role dependent)
