Job Description
Description:
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Alberta Health Services (AHS) Calgary Zone, in partnership with the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, is recruiting a 0.5 FTE Paediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist (PAG). The position is based primarily at Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH).
The successful candidate will hold full inpatient and outpatient privileges in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at ACH and will join an established group of five PAG providers. This role is dedicated exclusively to Paediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, with no expectation of adult Obstetrics or Gynecology practice.
Clinical responsibilities will include outpatient PAG clinics and operative care tailored to the needs of children and adolescents across the Calgary Zone. Initial clinic allocation will be two clinics per month, with planned growth over time in alignment with service development and approval of the Paediatric and Adolescent Gynecology clinical Alternative Relationship Plan (cARP).
Qualifications
The successful applicant must meet the following requirements:
· Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
· Fellowship training and certification in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynecology
· Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
The physician will have equitable access to existing operating room resources at Alberta Children’s Hospital, consistent with other surgical services at the site. Call responsibilities will align with the approved PAG service model and will be approximately 1 in 6 for a 0.5 FTE appointment. Call will focus on PAG-related consultative and operative care for both attached and unattached patients presenting through the ACH Emergency Department.
This is a predominantly clinical position, with opportunity to participate in medical education, administration, and advocacy and research endeavors will be supported. Alberta Children’s Hospital is a teaching hospital, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows while carrying out their clinical responsibilities.
As service needs evolve, there may be opportunities to take on additional clinics, operating room time, or call shifts, subject to departmental approval.
This position is funded through fee-for-service remuneration, with an application for a cARP hourly-rate model currently in progress. The successful candidate may also apply for a part-time position at an adult hospital within Calgary to complement their professional practice, and several adult Obstetrics and Gynecology opportunities are currently available.
Application Process
Applications should include a detailed curriculum vitae, a cover letter outlining the applicant’s interest in the position and fit with the Department, and the names of four references. Applications should be directed to:
