DIVISION HEAD, Rehabilitation 

Full-Time / Part-Time / Associate Appointment Opportunities 

Lakeridge Health | Durham Region, Ontario

Reporting to the Department Chief and Medical Director, Family and Community Medicine, the Division Head will represent the Rehabilitation Division, including specialists from Physical Medicine and Rehab Specialists across all Lakeridge Health sites. This leader will work collaboratively with the Department Chief and Medical Director, as well as with the Program Director, to oversee clinical operations, medical quality of care, recruitment, human resource planning, and academia across all sites. 

 This role offers the opportunity to support the advancement of integrated, patient-centred models of care for older adults and medically complex patients across hospital and community settings within one of Ontario’s fastest-growing and most diverse regions. 

 Specific responsibilities include: 

Clinical Operations 

  • Keep abreast of provincial context, and regional expectations for the services provided 
  • Act as a two-way conduit with Program Director and Division/Department 
  • Provide input into the development of a strategic plan for the Division along with its implementation 
  • Support effective integration, operational efficiency, best practice management, and patient centred care 
  • Attends and participates in Program Council 

 

Quality of Care 

  • Leads development of Quality Agenda for Division, including annual goals and objectives 
  • Supports the identification, implementation, and measurement of evidence-based practices 
  • Establishes and communicates clear performance expectations 
  • Leads and Ensures Division Patient Safety and Quality Rounds occur 
  • Participate in Quality of Care Reviews when asked for Chief and Medical Director 
  • Help ensure a collegial, safe, and diverse culture 

 

Professional Practice & Performance Management 

  • Supports Recruitment, Credentialing, and Performance Reviews in collaboration with the Department Chief and Medical Director 
  • Identifies, collaborates, and participates in complaints and incident investigations, management, and responses, as well as recognition and acknowledgement of credentialed staff 
  • Support Department Chief in evaluating and managing professional practice issues 
  • Support, coach, and mentor others to achieve their best 

 

Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Lakeridge Health 
  • Ensure regular two-way communication with Credentialed Staff  
  • Facilitate the advancing and integration of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Anti-Racism (IDEAA) 
  • Support the completion of Human Resource Scheduling, workload, and wellness of the division whilst working with other leaders within the Department 
  • Participating in additional committees as appropriate and defined by Department Chief and Medical Director

Qualifications 

Required 

Applicants must: 

  • Hold, or be eligible for licensure, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), including eligibility for an Independent Practice Certificate or a Restricted/Provisional certificate as applicable.  
  • Be certified, or eligible for certification, in CFPC / other relevant body  
  • Be eligible for hospital privileges at Lakeridge Health  
  • Minimum two years of clinical experience 
  • Work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment  
  • Intention to complete IDEAA modules 
  • Ability to manage competing demands and engage constructively with people 
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills 

Preferred / Assets 

Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate: 

  • Interest or experience in medical education, teaching, or preceptorship  
  • Interest or experience in quality improvement or program development  
  • Interest or experience in primary care, community medicine, long-term care, or system integration 
  • Interest in integrated care, community partnerships, and physician leadership
