Company Description

Dalhousie’s Student Health & Wellness Centre located in central Halifax is seeking a family practice physician to join our team as the primary health care provider for an existing patient roster of community patients in addition to offering select student appointments for dedicated primary health care. Timeline of this role would be an approximate start of Fall 2026.

Our Centre is committed to providing quality primary and mental health care services to promote and enhance both community and student patients’ health.

The physician will work collaboratively with the Centre's interprofessional team of family physicians (15), family practice OB physicians (2), a nurse manager and registered nurses (3), a psychiatrist, counsellors (9 FTE) and health promotion staff. Our clinical team is supported by an experienced administrative staff who manage scheduling, reception, referrals, nursing office duties, along with all billing and health records functions.

Job Description

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness
  • be accountable for appropriate workload and practice
  • work with other physicians in providing on-call service to clinic patients (alternating one 9am-2pm or 1-6pm shifts each week, and one Saturday 1-4pm per academic term)
  • work in collaboration with other team members in the practice to best suit the community’s health needs
  • operate within the Medical Services Agreement between Dalhousie Student Health Services and Dalhousie University
  • utilize the Centre’s shared electronic medical record (Accuro) to record all relevant patient details


Expected Hours

  • To be discussed with clinic
  • Physicians choose their own schedules with the operating hours of the Centre. The Centre is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-6pm and Saturdays for on-call service from 1-4pm (September-April), 8:30am-5pm (M-F, May-August).
