Job Description

Description:

The successful candidate will join the Section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Calgary. The position will be based at the Foothills Medical Center.

 

The successful academic PM&R specialist will be expected to lead their own research program in stroke and brain injury, while also collaborating with other researchers in Calgary, nationally and abroad. They will provide education to medical students, residents and graduate students around stroke and brain injury, rehabilitation and research methods. Clinically the candidate will participate in clinical care of stroke and brain injury patients, including inpatient consultative work, outpatient clinics and on call.

 

Protected time for academic activity will be negotiated depending on the candidate’s track record and academic plan. The successful candidate will be supported with start-up funding commensurate with their expertise, prior accomplishments and proposed academic plan. The candidate will also be expected to participate in teaching residents, clinical and research fellows, medical students, and graduate students. The successful candidate is expected to start their position around October 1, 2026 (negotiable).

 

The Section of PM&R benefits from affiliation with both the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and the McCaig Bone and Joint Institute. Either institute will engage the appropriate clinician-scientist applicant.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include an MD and Canadian Royal College specialist certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or equivalent. The candidate must have completed a dedicated fellowship in neurorehabilitation, resulting in independent competence across stroke and brain injury rehabilitation. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. All applicants must display a strong track record of scholarly activity, including 12 or more peer-reviewed publications within the last ten years, with some (preferably most) related to stroke and TBI.
