Job Description

Applications are invited for a one-year fellowship in Surgical Pathology with a sub-specialty focus, commencing July 1, 2026. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Health Authority in association with Saskatoon City Hospital, Royal University Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital is an oncologic and provincial biomarker referral centre for Saskatchewan. employs 23 pathologists and handles approximately 51,000 surgical and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually.

In addition, Saskatoon is one of handful of centres across the country that has a mixture of both sub-specialised and general surgical pathology practices. We have sub-specialized pathologists working in the fields of gastrointestinal/liver, gynecologic, dermatologic, genitourinary, renal, breast, cyto and pediatric pathology. In addition to the substantial volume of case material, the exceptional quality of the faculty and the highly conducive academic environment together create a nurturing setting that enables future fellows to enrich their educational experience, refine diagnostic expertise, and actively engage in meaningful research.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This fellowship will be in Surgical pathology with a sub-specialty focus in two of the following: GI/Liver, Gynecologic, Breast. Other or individual sub-specialty requests will also be considered on a case by case basis.

Most of the fellow's time will be allocated to clinical service. The fellow will be expected to participate in one or more independent research projects suitable for peer review publication and will have the option to choose between an elective or research month. There will be opportunities to participate in medical student and resident teaching and to present at discipline specific seminars and rounds. This fellowship has a component of independent sign-out. The location of the fellowship will be in Saskatoon, primarily at Saskatoon City Hospital.

Specialty Type: Specialist - Pathologist

Qualifications:

Minimum requirements include (1) a MD (or equivalent) degree, (2) certification in General or Anatomical Pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and (3) eligibility for provisional licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan; eligibility licensing that permits independent practice will be regarded as an asset.
This position is open to all qualified candidates; however, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada, and to trainees from Canadian residency programs. International medical graduates must ascertain their eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan / physiciansapply.ca prior to applying.

Additional Information:

The deadline for the receipt of completed application files, including references, is March 30, 2026. Interested candidates should submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, and three references preferably from supervisors/teachers who have had meaningful responsibility for their residency education, to be emailed directly to:
