The position plays a key leadership role in fostering collaboration between independent primary care physicians, My Health Teams, and system partners such as the WRHA and Shared Health.
This physician leader will help ensure that community-based perspectives are reflected in regional planning, decision-making, and implementation of primary care initiatives, particularly as they relate to My Health Team care delivery and the creation of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) within the six WRHA community areas.
Key Responsibilities

- Support the development and implementation of Primary Care Networks (PCNs) within each of the six WRHA community areas.
Representation and Advocacy
- Serve as the regional voice for non-regionally affiliated (fee-for-service) primary care providers, ensuring their perspectives and challenges are heard at WRHA and Shared Health planning tables.
- Vet, consolidate, and escalate issues and concerns from community-based physicians to the appropriate WRHA or Shared Health leadership forums.
- Disseminate relevant information and decisions from WRHA/Shared Health back to community areas and primary care partners.
System Integration and Collaboration
- Participate as a member of Shared Health’s Primary Care Subcommittee, and provide input into Primary Care Capacity Planning.
- Engage in regional and provincial working groups where community-based primary care input is beneficial, in conjunction with the RMSL for Primary Care.
- Provide leadership coverage for the RMSL during periods of absence.
Qualifications
Education and Certification
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) with current and active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM).
- Certification in Family Medicine (CCFP) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) preferred.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in primary care practice, ideally within the Winnipeg region.
- Current, longitudinal family practice in a fee-for-service setting, within a WRHA My Health Team affiliated clinic.
- Position to be held by a current My Health Team Medical Co-Lead preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership, committee participation, or health system planning roles.
- Strong understanding of primary care service delivery, including both regionally affiliated and fee-for-service models.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within complex health systems and across multiple organizational boundaries.
Term and Compensation
- Position Type: 0.1 EFT (approximately 0.5 day per week)
