Job Description
North Bay Cardiology is seeking a General Cardiologist to join a growing and innovative cardiovascular practice serving North Bay and Northeastern Ontario.
This is a unique opportunity to join an established regional cardiovascular program with significant referral demand, advanced diagnostic infrastructure, exceptional professional autonomy, and the ability to build a rewarding practice tailored to your clinical interests. Whether your focus is heart failure, preventive cardiology, echocardiography, ambulatory rhythm monitoring, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiometabolic medicine, or broad-based general cardiology, North Bay Cardiology provides the infrastructure and support to help you succeed.
ABOUT NORTH BAY CARDIOLOGY
Founded in 2022, North Bay Cardiology has rapidly grown into a comprehensive cardiovascular centre serving North Bay and surrounding communities. The practice includes:
• Accreditation Canada accredited echocardiography laboratory
• Contrast-enhanced echocardiography and advanced imaging technologies
• Large ambulatory rhythm monitoring program with regional outreach network
• On-site exercise stress testing
• Advanced cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) utilizing a Vyntus CPET metabolic cart
• Regional heart failure program
• Comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program developed in collaboration with University Health Network (UHN)
• Support from the North Bay Cardiac Rehabilitation Foundation to expand cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation services (https://nbcr-foundation.ca)
• Active participation in cardiovascular quality improvement and healthcare innovation initiatives
Unlike many community opportunities, North Bay Cardiology offers established referral pathways, diagnostic infrastructure, experienced staff, and administrative support, allowing physicians to focus on patient care, professional development, and program innovation rather than practice startup.
PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES
The successful candidate will have access to a large and diverse referral base and the ability to rapidly establish a busy and rewarding practice. Opportunities exist in:
• General cardiology consultation and follow-up care
• Heart failure management
• Echocardiography interpretation
• Ambulatory rhythm monitoring interpretation
• Exercise stress testing
• Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET)
• Cardiovascular prevention and risk reduction
• Cardiac rehabilitation
• Quality improvement and program development
Hospital privileges at North Bay Regional Health Centre may also be available for candidates interested in inpatient cardiology consultation and hospital-based practice; however, hospital work is not required.
FLEXIBILITY & AUTONOMY
North Bay Cardiology offers a flexible practice model that can accommodate a variety of professional and personal goals. Opportunities exist to combine in-person clinics with virtual follow-up visits, ambulatory rhythm monitoring interpretation, echocardiography reporting, and other remote clinical activities.
This flexibility allows physicians to develop a practice that aligns with their individual interests and lifestyle preferences while continuing to make a meaningful impact on cardiovascular care in an underserved region. Candidates interested in dividing their time between North Bay and another community are encouraged to discuss potential practice arrangements.
EXAMPLE PRACTICE MODEL
A cardiologist practicing three clinic days per week can expect to develop a busy and rewarding practice with substantial flexibility and autonomy. A typical week may include approximately:
• 35 echocardiogram interpretations
• 25 ambulatory rhythm monitor interpretations
• 18 exercise stress tests
• Three outpatient clinic days consisting of a mix of new consultations and follow-up visits
Based on current clinical and diagnostic volumes, a cardiologist practicing three clinical days per week can reasonably expect annual professional billings in the range of approximately $650,000–$800,000+, depending on clinical volume, case mix, and participation in diagnostic services.
COMPENSATION & OVERHEAD
North Bay Cardiology offers a flexible fee-for-service practice model with established referral pathways, diagnostic infrastructure, and administrative support.
To support recruitment and practice development, clinic overhead will be set at 15% of professional billings during the first year of practice, transitioning to 20% of professional billings thereafter.
Research & Quality Improvement
Opportunities exist for physicians interested in participating in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and collaborative projects. North Bay Cardiology is actively involved in cardiovascular quality improvement and is developing community-based research initiatives focused on heart failure, atrial fibrillation, ambulatory rhythm monitoring, and cardiovascular prevention. Participation is entirely optional and can be tailored to individual interests.
WHY NORTH BAY?
North Bay offers an exceptional quality of life with affordable housing, excellent schools, short commute times, and immediate access to four-season outdoor recreation. The region is known for its beautiful lakes, boating, fishing, skiing, cycling, hiking, and family-friendly communities.
Located approximately 3.5 hours from Toronto and Ottawa, North Bay provides the opportunity to enjoy a rewarding medical career while maintaining an outstanding work-life balance. Direct air service and the recently restored Northlander passenger rail service provide convenient transportation options, including direct rail access from North Bay to downtown Toronto.
For physicians seeking to combine meaningful clinical work, professional autonomy, and an exceptional quality of life, North Bay offers a unique opportunity to practice comprehensive cardiology while helping shape the future of cardiovascular care in an underserved region.
NEW GRADUATES WELCOME
New graduates are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative practice committed to providing the highest quality cardiovascular care to patients across Northeastern Ontario. Clinical volumes can be tailored to individual preference. This is an opportunity to work alongside an early-career cardiologist who has developed a comprehensive regional cardiovascular program and remains passionate about innovation, mentorship, quality improvement, and building new models of care.
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact:
