Job Description
Alberta Health Services, Department of Rural Medicine, Calgary Zone is recruiting an experienced Obstetrician & Gynecologist to join the medical staff at High River General Hospital.
Position Description:
This is a full-time position with a mix of community-based clinic and hospital work with on-call coverage to support the local maternity clinic providers.
The successful applicant will establish and maintain a community-based practice within the town of High River or surrounding rural area. The successful applicant may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or by opening their own practice. This is the candidate's business choice and will not be managed through the recruitment process.
The successful applicant must have strong OB/GYN surgical skills including operative laparoscopy experience and be comfortable operating without on-site backup of other surgical specialties in a Level 1 community hospital. (High River is located close to Calgary with Level 2 and Level 3 care centres available to transfer patients to).
- No antepartum care required - consultant obstetrics only, providing backup for local family physicians and midwives who provide low risk obstetrical care. Low risk antepartum care via the local clinic could be offered if there is an interest.
- On-call 1 in 3 but taken from home (must reside within 30 minutes of the High River General Hospital). Infrequent after-hours callouts (approximately 5-6 per month).
- Gynecology access to 2 full OR days per month.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be a qualified medical doctor with specialist certification in obstetrics and gynecology; applicants must be eligible for independent practice as a specialist in Obstetrics & Gynecology through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), and must read, write, and speak English.
The successful candidate will have their FRCPC with specialist certification in obstetrics and gynecology (or equivalent); demonstrated the ability to work with and manage a multi-disciplinary team; superior interpersonal communication skills; and strong surgical skills including extensive laparoscopic skills and training. Colposcopy accreditation and experience in Quality Assurance and Safety reviews required. Rural experience or equivalent expertise in working in an unsupported rural or small urban site as the only OBGYN on site, as well as expertise in patient selection and management in less resourced areas. Experience in managing complications of labor and cesarean sections including cesarean hysterectomy.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
Please apply through the Alberta Health Services job board - Doctor Jobs Alberta.
