The Opportunity
Peterborough Regional Health Centre is looking for a Geriatric Psychiatrist to support our Psychiatric Assessment Services for the Elderly program (PASE) and integrated Geriatric Medicine Psychiatric Consultation Liaison (CL) Service. The outpatient PASE program is located on-site at PRHC, with outreach locations in Northumberland, Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes. PASE offers assessment for those over 65 years experiencing mental health problems and under 65 with early onset dementia. Short-term treatment and case management services are offered through the program. The PASE Team includes Psychogeriatric Resource Consultants, Consultant Geriatric Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapist, Manager and support staff. Opportunities are also available for Psychiatrists as co-therapists in our Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Despression-Anxiety Groups. Our dynamic Geriatric Medicine Psychiatry CL service is supported by three nurses in collaboration with Geriatricians, a Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) worker and substance use support Nurse Practitioner. A 12-bed Geriatric Assessment Behavioural Unit (GABU) provides care for older adults with dementia and behavioural disturbances. Remuneration is via fee-for-service billing to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), Sessionals, and HOCC. Minimum expected annual earnings for a full-time practicing Geriatrics Psychiatrist working at our hospital and in our region is $300,000-$450,000. Benefits are not applicable for this position. Language of work is English.
Additional Programs
A 24-bed adult inpatient unit, supported by full-time social work, occupational therapy, psychology and therapeutic programming. A six-bed Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (CAPU) provides a regional service for children and adolescents with serious mental health concerns requiring assessment and stabilization.
PRHC also has a three-bed Crisis Response Unit (CRU) located in the Emergency Department, with nursing staff providing 24-hour crisis assessments and monitoring. Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and Four Counties Addictions Services Team (Fourcast) are located on the unit and provide short-term case management for patients living in the community.
Position Qualifications:
• Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). A clear and viable pathway to licensure must be established at the time of application
• Currently registered with or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
•Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or equivalent training (e.g., American Board Certification) and eligible for RCPSC assessment.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
• Demonstrated analytical ability
• Actively encourage a spirit of co-operation amongst team members
• Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre
• Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
