Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Physiatrist (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician) to join our innovative, patient-centered multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be pivotal in diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, with a primary focus on restoring function and enhancing the quality of life for patients with physical impairments or disabilities. This role requires a holistic approach, strong diagnostic skills, and exceptional collaboration within an interdisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and evaluations to diagnose complex physical conditions and functional limitations resulting from injury, illness, or chronic conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, or chronic pain.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of integrated, individualized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, psychologists, and social workers.
  • Prescribe and manage a variety of therapeutic interventions which may include medications, exercise programs, injections (e.g., trigger point, joint, spinal), electrodiagnostic testing, and the prescription of orthotic/prosthetic devices and assistive equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers).
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment strategies as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes, focusing on the "whole person" and their physical, emotional, social, and vocational well-being.
  • Educate and counsel patients and their families on rehabilitation strategies, self-management techniques, and lifestyle modifications to facilitate maximum independence and adaptation to lifestyle changes.
  • Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in compliance with healthcare regulations and standards using electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) from an accredited medical school.
  • Certification: Board certification or eligibility in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).
  • Licensure: Valid medical license to practice in Ontario.
  • Experience: Prior experience working within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation setting is highly preferred.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex medical information to patients, families, and diverse team members.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Compassion: An empathetic and compassionate approach to patient care, with a strong commitment to patient advocacy and patient-centered care.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex patient cases and drive outcomes.

Reimbursement: Fee-for-Service: 80% in favour of clinician, estimated to earn between 300-400,000$/year
