Health PEI is seeking a Hospitalist physician to provide Inpatient services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Located in the capital city of Charlottetown, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is the provincial referral centre for specialized hospital services. The 243-bed facility provides emergency, surgical, inpatient, and ambulatory care services.

It is operated by Health PEI, a crown corporation responsible for the delivery of publicly funded health services in Prince Edward Island. Health PEI’s head office is located at 16 Garfield Street, Charlottetown, PEI.

Hospitalist physicians provide comprehensive inpatient care including admission history and physical examination, daily medical management, participation in multidisciplinary rounds, family conferences as needed, and discharge planning. Other duties that the Hospitalist Physician group provide include “stand by” coverage in the event of high patient census, and acute and targeted outpatient follow up of recently discharged hospitalist inpatients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• A Hospitalist Physician provides comprehensive inpatient care for patients assigned to them, including admission history and physical examination, daily medical management, participation in multi-disciplinary rounds, family conferences as needed, and discharge planning.
• The Physician will work collaboratively with other health care workers such as Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, etc. to plan and deliver competent health services.
• The Physician will conduct their medical practice in accordance with current standards of medical care and will conform to applicable Health PEI and community and/or hospital policies and procedures. The Physician will adhere to the Physician Services Agreement and comply with the Health PEI Medical Staff Bylaws.
• The Physician will adhere to general charting guidelines, in accordance with Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), the Medical Staff Bylaws and the Health PEI Chart Documentation Standard, for the accurate and timely completion of medical records for all patients under their care.
• The Physician will be responsible for follow-up patient care and information by reporting all pertinent test results, referrals, consultations, etc. in a timely manner to the patient.

7 days on rotation alternating with 7 days off rotation, opportunity to support other areas of Health PEI during 7 days off.

Work hours 8AM – 5PM, with the requirement of overnight call on a rotational basis.

Remuneration:

• Hospitalists are paid a sessional hourly rate of $202/hour and qualify for premiums for weekend and holiday work.
• Weekend and holiday premiums are remunerated at the applicable rate plus an add-on premium of twenty-five percent (25%).
• Overnight on-call coverage responsibilities are shared within the Hospitalist group and remunerated by an on-call retainer plus fee for service model.

• Eligible Moving Expense reimbursement is available, with a three-year commitment.
• Opportunity to teach Medical Learners and Residents with faculty appointment at affiliated universities.
• Hospital-based electronic health record system with remote access to lab and diagnostic reports may be available.

Certifications and Eligibility Requirements:

• Eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island.
• Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada;
• Hold MCCQE Part I or Licentiate of Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) equivalent;
• Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA);
• Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging;
• Work experience preferable with at least 1- 2 years of clinical experience working in Canada.
