Job Description

Trail:
In the heart of the Selkirk and Monashee Mountains, Trail is surrounded by crystal-clear lakes and lush forests that are home to a variety of wildlife. Together with nearby Rossland, these two towns provide abundant opportunities to raise families, forge lasting friendships within the community, and get involved locally. Here, you’ll find a fulfilling career and an extraordinary lifestyle that nourishes your soul.

In Trail and Rossland, winter adventures become a part of your everyday life; that’s the life you can have when you live near Red Mountain Resort, a key destination on British Columbia’s legendary Powder Highway. Imagine gliding through fresh Kootenay snow and soaring down steep slopes, minutes from your own front door.

You’ll find endless opportunities for outdoor adventure here. Hike Sunningdale or Miral Heights for breathtaking views. If you’re a mountain biker, you’ll love the singletrack trails; if you’re a water enthusiast, you’ll enjoy kayaking or paddleboarding on the numerous lakes that dot the landscape.

Hit the links at Birchbank, known for its sprawling greens, and jaw-dropping shifts in elevation. Challenge yourself at Champion Lakes’ vibrant fairways. Tee off at Redstone, where Les Furber’s artistic brilliance shines, enhanced by striking rock formations, tranquil streams, glistening ponds, and immaculate white silica bunkers.

With spectacular landscapes and affordable real estate, you’ll find the ideal setting to establish your roots. Trail and Rossland are perfect for raising families, with wide open spaces and supportive communities. Come and see for yourself—we can’t wait to welcome you to our neighbourhoods!

Kootenay Boundary Hospital:
With a steadfast commitment to the health and wellness of the 85,000 residents across the region, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) guarantees personalized and comprehensive care for each member of our community.

Our capabilities extend from providing round-the-clock emergency and trauma care to specialized units for intensive care, acute medical conditions, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care. This means we’re equipped to handle the most critical demands with precision and compassion, ensuring no need goes unmet.

Transitioning from emergency to specialized care, the expertise of our dedicated specialists encompasses areas like ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. Their knowledge and skills make them the cornerstone of our healthcare services and patient outcomes.

Central to our mission is the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART), which highlights our role as the regional hub, offering expert care to critically ill and injured patients. This underscores our position as the key healthcare facility in the region, ready and equipped to tackle high-acuity cases with skill and care.

At KBRH, our identity goes beyond being a healthcare provider; we’re a community dedicated to medical excellence and compassionate care. Join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives we touch and contributing to a legacy of health and well-being.

Practice Description:
Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is recruiting for a Canadian Royal College certified General Pathologist, or board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist (AP/CP), for a three-person practice.

Our group performs approximately 8500 surgical pathology cases per year. Primary responsibilities will include general surgical pathology and cytology case sign out and clinical pathology case sign out (e.g. peripheral blood smears, bone marrow biopsies) as well as transfusion medicine and local laboratory oversight. There is also the opportunity for medical directorship of rural area labs. Autopsies are not currently performed at this site.

The ideal candidate will have recent clinical pathology experience, with strong skills in surgical pathology and laboratory diagnostics, including transfusion medicine and hematopathology. The candidate will need to be comfortable with independent practice in a small group environment. Daily quality assurance videoconference is done with other Interior Health pathologists, to share interesting or difficult cases. Intramural or extramural consultation for challenging or unusual cases is readily available, including outside consultation at academic medical center sites in Vancouver. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate well with laboratory staff, clinicians, and administration.

We are excited to add a new graduate or experienced pathologist to our team in the West Kootenays! The region offers an abundance of activities for outdoor enthusiasts and has opportunities for the arts and culture seeker as well. Join our welcoming community where there is something for everyone! Apply today and explore the exciting opportunities for the lifestyle of your dreams.
