Job Description

The Community

Tucked between towering peaks, glistening lakes, and rolling foothills lies Cranbrook—the heart of British Columbia's scenic Kootenay region. This extraordinary haven is not just a place; it's an experience for the soul.

Lose yourself in the pristine beauty of Wasa and Moyie Lakes, where swimming, paddleboarding, and windsurfing await. Set off on a river safari along the mesmerizing St. Mary River, navigating its currents on a canoe, kayak, or raft. The angler's paradise of the Kootenay and Bull rivers teems with rainbow, cutthroat, and bull trout.

Swing like Arnold Palmer on any of the region's seven championship golf courses, including Shadow Mountain and Wildstone. The vast network of trails beckons you to push your limits with mountain biking, hiking, and climbing across seven unique crags.

The Powder Highway runs through the heart of the Canadian Rockies near Cranbrook, with renowned winter destinations like Fernie, Kimberley, and Fairmont just an hour away. Experience heart-stopping days carving down alpine bowls, shredding uncrowded trails, and conquering daring steeps in this winter sports playground.

Welcome to locum life in Cranbrook, where the only limits are those of the horizon.

The Practice

Join our team in emergency medicine at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, where quick decision-making and staying calm under pressure are paramount. Our ER doctors enjoy the security of an Alternative Payments Program model, ensuring a stable income and allowing them to focus fully on delivering exceptional care. This sought-after arrangement is available only in select ERs in BC, providing our physicians with financial peace of mind.

We have 10 emergency physicians, collectively handling approximately 23,000 patient visits per year. EKRH is the regional Trauma and ICU Referral Centre, so you'll be seeing challenging cases that will keep up your acute care skills but still allow you to live and play in a rural setting. You'll encounter cases spanning the entire spectrum of emergency medicine, collaborating with an incredible team of allied health professionals, such as mental health and substance use nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and round-the-clock respiratory therapists.

The Hospital

Join us at East Kootenay Regional Hospital, an 80-bed regional referral centre serving approximately 82,000 individuals in the beautiful East Kootenay region of BC.

Our 24/7 emergency and trauma services feature a 16-bed unit and a 6-bed ICU. Our high-acuity-response-team provides mobile critical care to stabilize and transfer rural patients.

The hospital includes a level 3 lab with new PCR and MALDI/TOF machines, plus new MRI, SPECT CT, and upcoming CT scanners in the radiology department. Construction is also underway for a new NICU, renovated ER triage, and oncology and renal departments.

With our dedicated team, you’ll find top-notch care across our comprehensive range of services: internal medicine, OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, pathology, psychiatry, pediatrics, anesthesia, radiology, urology, and family practice inpatient care.

Join us for a locum opportunity in Cranbrook and experience the adventure of the Canadian Rockies while enjoying the warmth of the community. Immerse yourself in the stunning natural beauty of the great outdoors, and make the most of your time off the clock.
