Job Description

About the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights:

The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights is a virtual psychotherapy clinic based in Toronto, Ontario, specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Our approach is rooted in evidence-based interventions and focuses on uncovering, understanding, and resolving the underlying emotions and root causes of symptoms. Through in-depth, collaborative discussions, we analyze unconscious thoughts and emotions from childhood to the present, exploring how they influence current experiences. This comprehensive approach allows us to develop targeted strategies that foster meaningful change and symptom relief. At the Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, we are committed to helping patients achieve deeper self-awareness and lasting transformation through a personalized and integrative treatment plan.

About the Position:

This role is ideal for a psychiatrist with expertise in psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapy who values in-depth, long-term therapeutic engagement. In addition to providing comprehensive psychotherapy, you will conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, prescribe psychotropic medications when appropriate, and monitor patients’ responses and side effects over time. You will also provide psychoeducation about medication use within a psychodynamically informed treatment framework. Working virtually with adolescents and adults (16+), you will address a broad range of concerns including trauma, neurodevelopmental conditions, personality disorders, and complex relational or sexual issues.

Requirements:

  • Conduct psychiatric assessments
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects, and educate patients regarding psychotropic medication.
  • Provide psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy to adolescents and adults (16+). All theoretical frameworks are welcome (e.g., Jungian, Freudian, Object Relations, or Adlerian approaches).
  • Experience, comfort, and willingness in most of the specializations listed on our website. Experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, neurodevelopmental disorders, personality disorders, and sexual issues is required.
  • Willingness to work with patients at a frequency of at least once a week.
  • Comfort using JaneApp for scheduling, documentation, and secure communication.
  • Work virtually with access to a confidential workspace, adequate lighting, high-speed internet, and a high-quality camera.
  • Ability to maintain a caseload of at least 8 patients per week.

Qualifications:

  • For Ontario residents: Must be registered as a member in good standing with the CPSO. Applicants not registered with this college will not be considered. For residents of other provinces and the United States: Must be willing to register with CPSO and relocate to Ontario.
  • Depth and breadth of knowledge, skills, and expertise in psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy. This could include Jungian analysis, Adlerian analysis, or any other psychodynamic/psychoanalytic approach. This could be obtained through one or more of the following: personal experience in receiving psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy, individual research and interest, education, clinical expertise, training, and supervision.
  • Please note that while our clinic is dedicated exclusively to psychodynamic and psychoanalytic modalities, some patients who begin psychotherapy sessions may benefit more from other modalities before commencing analytical work due to their current symptoms. Such modalities include cognitive-behavioural or other non-analytic approaches. As such, we welcome practitioners who work with experiential and integrative approaches within a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic framework.
  • Experience and comfort with virtual therapy and working with adolescents and adults.

Assets:

  • Experience with couples, families, pre-/post-natal/postpartum issues, women-specific issues, or eating disorders.
  • Experience working with children and teenagers under 16.
  • Knowledge of Bowen Family Systems theory.
  • French or additional language skills.

Availability: Monday to Friday, including mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

Please note:

  • This is an independent contractor position.
  • Only applicants who are selected for further consideration will be contacted. We appreciate your interest in joining our team!

Application Deadline: Open until the position is filled. Early applications are encouraged.

We look forward to welcoming a passionate and skilled psychotherapist to our team!
