Location:
Little Current, on Manitoulin Island, is located only 1.5 hours from Sudbury and Health Sciences North, our main referral centre. Manitoulin Island is the largest freshwater island in the world which can be assessed by the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry in the summer months and by road and the iconic swing bridge year-round. Favourite nearby attractions include Providence Bay (white sand beach complete with sand dunes, and plentiful milkweed for monarch butterflies), Bridal Veil Falls (swim at the base of this spectacular waterfall or watch the salmon run in late summer), among many others.
The LCMA serves the communities of Whitefish River First Nation, Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, Sheguiandah First Nation, Wiikwemikoong Unceded Territory, and the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands.
Facilities
The Northeastern Manitoulin Family Health Team (NEMFHT) is the setting for the physician team of the Little Current Medical Associates. The clinic is attached to the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) where the physicians provide 24-hour ER coverage, inpatient care, and obstetrics. The NEMFHT team includes two nurse practitioners, three registered nurses, three registered practical nurses, a pharmacist, two-three physician assistants, a social worker (CBT), and a dedicated administrative team committed to offering quality primary health care in a collaborative setting.
