North York General Hospital (NYGH) is a fully accredited community academic hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and is one of Canada’s leading community hospitals. Operating over 600 acute and long-term care beds on three sites, NYGH serves over 400,000 residents in North Central Toronto. We offer our culturally diverse community a broad continuum of integrated primary, secondary and selected tertiary services.
The Clinical Genetics Program offers comprehensive clinical care in medical genetics across all age groups, including paediatric and adult care, prenatal services, research, and teaching, supported by advanced diagnostic platforms in an innovative inter-disciplinary environment.
As an integral member of the Clinical Genetics Team and the larger Regional Genetics Program, we are recruiting a Medical Geneticist to join our comprehensive inter-professional team. Genetics services at North York General Hospital include outpatient clinics and inpatient consultation in prenatal diagnosis, paediatric and adult dysmorphology, neurogenetics, cancer genetics, and general genetics. In addition to regular outpatient services, we host inter-professional clinics in Huntington disease and hereditary breast cancer, and work closely with our maternal-fetal medicine colleagues. Our on-site labs include the largest prenatal screening lab in the country, as well as cytogenetics and molecular genetics laboratories.
Medical geneticists with an expertise or interest in the following areas are invited to apply:
1) cancer genetics;
2) prenatal genetic diagnosis;
3) general genetics (neonatal, paediatric and adult); and
4) teaching/medical genetics education
NYGH Clinical Genetics Program offers clinical rotations affiliated with the University of Toronto medical education and residency programs, as well as clinical placement rotations for Master of Science programs in Genetic Counseling. The department is proud to foster a respectful, multi-disciplinary, and inclusive work environment that supports the training of a diverse group of learners. The successful candidate will be appointed as faculty and will be responsible for teaching to our undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees.
Clinical responsibilities for all candidates will include covering outpatient clinics in accordance with the candidate’s clinical area of interest and needs within the clinic, and medical genetics consult service covering both pediatric and adult services, which require at least basic knowledge of biochemical genetics and pediatric dysmorphology.
The successful candidate will be expected to be actively involved in NYGH’s academic mission through teaching, research, scholarly activity, and participation in academic and administrative committees. NYGH clinical members are also expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the local regional genetics community, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
