Job Summary:
Acute Care Alberta (ACA) invites applications for the role of Medical Lead, Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Workforce Strategy.
The Medical Lead acts as a resource within the Surgical Care Alberta (SCA) portfolio to stabilize surgical assistant coverage, support incremental surgical growth, and ensure equitable access across Alberta in collaboration with the Health Shared Services RNFA Provincial Program Office
The development of a sustainable RNFA workforce is essential to achieving the goals of the Surgical Acute Care Action Plan. Addressing the current and future shortage of surgical assistants requires a coordinated provincial strategy that balances urgent system needs with long-term sustainability
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
• Support the overarching aims of the RNFA initiative; participate in the provincial steering committee and provide feedback on formative documents
• Provide input to ensure a coordinated approach with SMEs (i.e., surgeons, operational leaders, CNEs, existing and new RNFAs)
• Support communications as a liaison between ACA/HSS and surgeons, surgery-leads
• Build an RNFA workforce to mitigate service disruptions
• Maintain a continuous intake of trainees aligning supply and demand cycles
• Protect RNFA practice time (avoid reverting perioperative RN duties except when operationally planned)
• Implement retention strategies
• Create an RNFA Community of Practice, with opportunities for continuing professional development
• Develop a standardized competency framework
Qualifications:
Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff
Remuneration:
In accordance with CMO Policy 01-01.
