Job Description
Alberta Health Services invites applications for an Obstetrician & Gynecologist position (1.0 FTE) to join the Department of Women’s Health in the Edmonton Zone.
This position will be based out of the Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH). Located in St. Albert, just north of Edmonton, the SCH provides a wide variety of health services to the community of St. Albert and surrounding area. St. Albert was named the best city in Canada in which to live by Money Sense magazine and recently SCH was designated an A+ hospital in a national review done by CBC’s Fifth Estate. As a community hospital, the Sturgeon's focus is on providing the best care in a comfortable, modern and friendly setting. Care provided includes Emergency Services, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Medicine, Women's Health, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory services, Cardiac and Intensive care units. The SCH has recently opened a Level 2 NICU to provide improved neonatal care in concert with our obstetrical services. Three thousand two hundred deliveries are performed on site each year and the site supports this being increased within the current bed base.
The position will help to support and augment the already strong obstetrics and gynecologic programs at the hospital. The new recruit would be expected to possess minimally invasive gynecology skills (laparoscopic hysterectomy, etc), and be comfortable working in a busy obstetrical unit without regular resident support. Advanced training in MIS or other subspecialities would be considered a benefit, but not required. Remuneration will be on a fee-for-service basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health.
The Sturgeon Community Hospital is affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serves as an important training hospital for residents and medical students. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the University of Alberta located in Edmonton. This will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry which has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have or be eligible to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The candidate must have or be eligible for unrestricted licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
