Job Description

Alberta Health Services – North Zone, and the community of Westlock, are currently looking for an Orthopedic Surgeon to join their current team of Specialists and Family Medicine physicians to establish a full-time practice in the community of Westlock. This position offers a broad community orthopaedic practice with an emphasis on general trauma care and primary hip and knee arthroplasty. While the successful candidate will provide some primary arthroplasty services, inpatient resource and capacity limits mean that arthroplasty should make up no more than approximately half of their overall practice. Candidates with an additional outpatient elective subspecialty interest such as sports medicine, lower extremity reconstruction, trauma, or foot and ankle surgery would be well suited to the role. The remaining portion of the practice can be dedicated to developing a strong and well supported elective outpatient subspecialty service that reflects the candidate's strengths.

The successful candidate is required to offer services within the Westlock Healthcare Centre and out of a community-based Orthopedic practice, within the community of Westlock.

The candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Westlock

  • Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community

  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services

  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Orthopedic Surgery call schedule, as required

  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies

  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Orthopedic Surgery

  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs

  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned

  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care
