Job Description

The Section of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery within the Edmonton Department of Cardiac Sciences in Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, invites applications of a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgeon to join our dynamic team in Edmonton. Responsibilities

  • Perform complex paediatric and adult congenital cardiac surgeries, including mechanical circulatory support and transplant-related procedures.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in on-call rotations (approximately 1:3- 1:4)
  • Contribute to the Western Canadian Children's Heart Network and adult congenital heart programs.
  • Engage in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows through the University of Alberta's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
  • Conduct or collaborate on research initiatives in congenital cardiac surgery, with access to dedicated research support and funding opportunities.
  • Support quality improvement projects and program development to optimize patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD) from an accredited institution.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) in Cardiac Surgery, or equivalent.
  • Subspecialty training and certification in Paediatric Cardiac Surgery and/or Adult Congenital Heart Surgery.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of post-fellowship experience in high-volume congenital cardiac surgery programs.
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
  • Demonstrated expertise in minimally invasive techniques, hybrid procedures, mechanical circulatory support and adult-Congenital surgery is an asset.
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, with a track record of publications and/or presentations preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive fee-for-service remuneration, with potential for academic salary support through the University of Alberta.
