Job Description

Division of Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics

Full Time Locum – 1 year term

The UBC Department of Pediatrics and BCCH are seeking a Locum Pediatric Endocrinologist.

BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) is the only dedicated pediatric tertiary care centre for the province of British Columbia in Canada serving a population of approximately 4 million people. The Department of Pediatrics within the University of British Columbia (UBC) resides within BCCH.

The Division of Endocrinology at BCCH includes 15 academic faculty, as well as a team of dedicated clinical nurse specialists, dietitians and social workers. The vision of the Division is: ‘Empowered patients, exemplary team, ever-evolving care, and excellence in education and research.’ The Division aims to maintain its status of academic excellence through the delivery of high-quality care, innovative research, and the education of future health care providers through a successful Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons accredited fellowship training program.

The Division of Endocrinology is comprised of 3 key clinical programs:

The Diabetes Program serves children and youth
The Endocrinology Program serves as a consultation service to children and youth
The Gender Program, one of the busiest in North America, serves transgender and gender-nonconforming youth.

The successful applicant must be eligible to obtain a specialist’s license to practice medicine in British Columbia as well as Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Pediatrics and Fellowship training in Endocrinology (or equivalents). The proposed position will have a clinical component that includes outpatient clinics in endocrinology, diabetes and gender, as well as in-patient service and call. The successful applicant will participate in educational activities within the Division including academic rounds and fellow/resident teaching. They will have opportunities to contribute to the organization of gender affirming care throughout British Columbia, in collaboration with British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital and Trans Care BC. They will be encouraged to participate in academic endeavors (i.e. research and/or quality improvement projects) that align with the divisional vision and priorities.

UBC Clinical faculty rank and salary will be commensurate upon your personal experience and qualifications.

The anticipated start date for the position is July 2026.

Interested individuals should provide their most current Curriculum Vitae; covering letter and 3 letters reference. Applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate has been found.

UBC and BCCH hire on the basis of merit and are committed to employment equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. We especially welcome applications from members of visible minority groups, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities. Canadians and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority

We encourage applications from all qualified individuals, including Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, people of diverse gender identities or expressions, and members of other equity-seeking groups.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to beginning and continuing their personal learning journey related to Indigenous-specific racism and dismantling systems of oppression, as well as addressing racism more broadly. Shows willingness to articulate and share their learning experiences to contribute to a culture of motivation and inspiration among peers.

As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Foundational knowledge of the social, economic, and political realities of settler-colonialism and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and equity-deserving groups within social and health contexts. Understands the impact of social determinants of health-on-health outcomes. Shows a commitment to learning about and upholding legislative obligations and provincial commitments outlined in foundational documents such as the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study, the BC Human Rights Code, Anti-Racism Data Act, and the Distinctions Based Approach.

What we do

BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province’s most acutely ill or injured children and youth, provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offers a broad range of health services.

BCCH is a program of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) Services Authority (PHSA) which plans, manages and evaluates specialized health services with the BC health authorities to provide equitable and cost-effective health care for people throughout the province. Our values reflect our commitment to excellence and include: Respect people – Be compassionate – Dare to innovate – Create equity – Be courageous.

UBC is Canada’s third largest university and consistently ranks among the 40 best universities in the world. Primarily situated in Vancouver, UBC is a research‐intensive university and has an economic impact of $4 billion to the provincial economy.

PHSA, BCCH and UBC are committed to anti-racism and equity in our hiring and employment practices. With learning and compassion, we are addressing existing inequities and barriers throughout our systems. PHSA is seeking to create a diverse workforce and to establish an inclusive and culturally safe environment. We invite applications and enquiries from all people, particularly those belonging to the historically, systemically, and/or persistently excluded groups identified under the B.C. Human Rights Code.

One of PHSA’s North Star priorities is to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism, which includes ongoing commitments to Indigenous recruitment and employee experience as well as dismantling barriers to health care employment at every level. We welcome Indigenous individuals to apply and/or contact the Sanya’k̓ula Team (Indigenous Recruitment & Employee Experience) for support at ***@phsa.ca (🔒 Premium).

Indigenous-specific anti-racism initiatives are rooted in addressing the unique forms of discrimination, historical and ongoing injustices, and exclusion faced by Indigenous peoples. These initiatives align with an Indigenous rights-based approach, recognizing the inherent rights and title of BC First Nations and self-determination of all First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. PHSA is mandated to uphold legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents including the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
