Job Description
The Division of Thoracic Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta is currently seeking applications for a Thoracic Surgeon to join the team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
The candidate will have completed an accredited Thoracic Surgery Fellowship. Applicants must have either written the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) examination in thoracic surgery or be eligible to write the RCPSC examination by July 1, 2026. Candidates should also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and be eligible for hospital privileges at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
The position is based in a high-volume tertiary care setting, fostering strong multidisciplinary collaboration. Services provided at the Royal Alexandra Hospital extend to patients from Edmonton, central and northern Alberta, as well as the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The successful Thoracic Surgeon will provide a complete range of benign and malignant thoracic surgical care. The successful thoracic surgeon will have access to the outpatient Alberta Thoracic Oncology Program, endoscopy procedures, operating room and inpatient resources at Royal Alexandra Hospital. This includes access to robotic thoracic surgery technology and advanced endoscopy. It is expected that the successful candidate will apply for a clinical faculty appointment within the Department of Surgery and participate in all aspects of the academic and clinical mission of the Divisions of Thoracic Surgery through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, participation in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, and contribute to basic and/or clinical research, and participate in administrative activities.
